Likewise, God is constantly transmitting His voice to His sheep, but few are turned on and tuned in. Most Christians are busy pleading with God in prayer to transmit when the problem is with their receivers. The first thing we need to do is fix our receivers — believe that God is already speaking and start listening.
However, that takes time, effort, and focus. Second, and this is very important, most often we mistake the voice of the Lord for our own thoughts. I said the voice of the Lord comes to us in our own thoughts. This is saying that communication with God is Spirit to spirit, not brain to brain or mouth to ear, the way we communicate in the physical realm. The Lord speaks to our spirits, not in words, but in thoughts and impressions. I learned this the hard way while pastoring in Pritchet, Colorado.

Six months of the year, they were gone following the wheat harvest. They insisted that we ordain another elder who would always be there. However, being a man, I went with logic instead of my heart. Within two weeks of the others leaving for wheat harvest, this new elder turned into the devil himself. In his reports to the elders, he accused me of stealing money from the church, committing adultery, drinking, smoking, and everything else you can imagine.
It was a terrible experience. As soon as this man showed his true colors, I knew in my heart that the feelings and thoughts I had were the Lord speaking to me, and I had dismissed them as my own. I made a decision right then and there that I would never ignore my heart again. This verse has often been interpreted to mean that the Lord will give you whatever you want and has been used to justify selfishness, greed, and even adultery.
He will make His desires become your desires. I once was planning a trip to Costa Rica, a place I had been before, and was excited to be returning to. Yet, as I prayed about it, I lost my desire to go. Instead, I actually felt dread about going. The first thing I did when that happened was make sure I was really seeking the Lord with my whole heart. While on a road trip, I spent seventeen hours praying in tongues, and the more I got my mind stayed on the Lord, the less I wanted to go back to Costa Rica. On the strength of that alone, I canceled the trip. The plane I had booked my flight on crashed on take-off from Mexico City, killing all persons onboard.
That is the dominant way the Lord speaks to us, and we often miss that kind of communication. One of the most important decisions of my life came in I was in college when the Lord radically touched my life, and all my desires changed. Then all hell broke loose. He wants to have fellowship with us, he wants to fill us with his Holy Spirit so we would prophecy, see visions, receive his dreams etc. God is a speaking God, he wants us to hear his voice and he instructs us to become vessels of his voice to encourage others. Now that we know for sure that God still speaks today, the next question is: And, how can we be sure we are not deceived by a wrong voice, for example by a deceiving spirit?
First of all I want to outline two very basic principles that help you hear the voice of God accurately. Jesus Christ came to set us free from the realm of witchcraft, deception and darkness and to bring us close to God. He made it clear that he is the only way to a relationship with the heavenly Father:. I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through Me. I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life. Without Jesus Christ we are exposed to spirits and spiritual powers that want to mislead us. But he came into this world to bring the true light, that sets us free.

Deny once and for all every other spiritual source of influence, close the doors to every form of occult practice, sourcery, new age , witchcraft, fortunetelling… throw it as far from you as the east is from the west, repent from it with all your heart and bow deep before the throne of the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, who died for you, to forgive your sins and give you a brand new life in him. Let your pride go down the drain, let your own opinions and every form of rebellion fall away and kneel before Jesus Christ. I pray that the eyes of your hear t may be enlightened, so that you will know what is the hope of His calling. As Westerners we have been taught to understand everything from our brains. If our grey cells cannot grasp it, we want to keep a safe distance. However, God is not a set of brain cells, nor is he a book full of words.
A deep impression in your heart. Soft, loving, something very clear, sometimes very quiet. You just hear it. Or you know something very strongly. Or you can feel a thought well up from the inward. It comes spontaneously, naturally, quietly. God is a father, a friend, a lover.
10 Ways to Hear from God Regularly
He is also a loving Shepherd. He is soft, loving and constructive. Even when he corrects you, he will do it from his love and with the desire to bring you more in his love. You can just SEE it in front of you. God shows it to you. With others it is less often. When God shows you something in your spirit it usually makes a deep impression.
I once saw an image of an awesome light. You are outside of that light. You are supposed to be in that light. The lesson God showed me with this was: Come and be at ease where you are supposed to live: I discovered through this image and the thoughts that followed that God accepts me completely. You will never forget lessons like that. You can always do that, anytime you want to. My wife and I sometimes do this together with the children. At those moments we ask God if He wants to show us something, to encourage each other. You can always ask God to show you something as an answer to a prayer or a need.
After you have made your need known to God, ask Him to show you something. Focus yourself on Jesus Christ and relax. God speaks in many different ways. Following are some ways how God can speak to you:. When you read in it, you can learn so much about Him and yourself. Everything is about his relationship with you and His love. Even today God speaks to people with an audible voice, though not very often. This is what we already discussed. You can hear that voice essentially in your spirit aka you inner being.
In your thoughts you can hear three voices: That is the only way. Try, practise and build up experience. You will learn it as you follow God for a longer period of time. It is important to always check the voice to the message God has revealed in the Bible. When a voice says things that are not in agreement with what the Bible says, it is a deceiving voice.
God always speaks to us by giving us inner peace or unrest when having a certain thought or decision we want to take. God lives in your inner being so He will always confirm something if it is of Him or not, by His inner peace. God can speak very clearly to you by giving you a feeling of sadness when taking a certain decision or a feeling of unrest. In those cases it is better to wait until you receive more clarity from God. Typically, if a decision is in line with the will of God, the holy Spirit will give you peace and joy over it.
Even when making a difficult decision that will ask something of you, when you make that decision it will give you a feeling of freedom and peace. To break free from an ungodly relationship can cause emotional pain for a while, but at a deeper level will the spirit of God give you a profound peace. That was a very hard step that involved a lot of pain, but God sent Him an angel to give Him peace and strength. God confirms his will always by peace. Agitation is a sign that something is not up to par. In the Bible there are many examples of people receiving dreams where God speaks to them.
A dream like that can be some kind of allegory or metaphor. A nightmare seldom comes from God. God can give you a disturbing dream to warn you, but in general a dark dream that brings a lot of agitation is not from God. Sometimes it takes a long time before you find an explanation about a dream. A vision is like a dream, but while you are awake.
