Your body undergoes metabolic and hormonal changes that allow you to lose weight effortlessly, he claims, as long as you know how to work with your body rather than against it.

He divides the "biological window of weight loss opportunity" into three phases: In the first postpartum trimester, your metabolic rate is burning high and your appetite is suppressed, making it easy to lose weight. However, postpartum depression can interfere, and Levine explains how you can combat mild cases by raising serotonin levels with dietary changes and more severe cases with medication. Likewise, Levine shows you how to use diet and easy toning exercises to accelerate the weight-loss potential of the other postpartum trimesters.

The book includes 14 days of menus and a dozen recipes, plus tips for avoiding excessive weight gain during pregnancy. Weight-loss guides are perennially popular with library patrons, and Levine, a weight-loss specialist and author of The Redux Revolution Morrow, , has written a common-sense addition to the category.

His guide to postpartum weight loss blends sound nutritional advice with information on women's hormones and metabolism that may affect weight management. A sensible diet coupled with portion control is recommended. Levine discourages the use of impossible exercise programs and fad diets, including the recently popular high-protein and high-fat diets.

His advice encompasses the range of postpartum women, breastfeeding or not, seriously obese or only marginally overweight. Levine also includes a day simple eating plan, a small recipe section, and a guide to fast food. His upbeat tone and you-can-do-it attitude make this a fine choice for diet book and pregnancy collections. Copyright Reed Business Information, Inc.

Bye Baby, Bye Bye

One person found this helpful. This book was an easy, informative read. I learned a great deal about my postartum body from this book. The suggested "menus" in the back are great as well. However, the book gives very little hope to trying to lose your baby fat after six months postpartum. He pretty much says that it is impossible to lose the weight after six months. This is not true and was not helpful to me.

It was nothing but depressing and discouraging. I mean, why try if it is impossible? My suggestion is to read the book before you have your baby and get some good use out of it. I will be following the author's advice on the NEXT baby. If you had your baby several months ago, look for something else. This book may only frustrate and depress you.

See a Problem?

I read the book when my daughter was 3 months. I am now 8 months postpartum, just recently figured what is working for me and losing my weight. I have lost 9 pounds in the last month. It IS possible to lose the weight after six months. Says breastfeeding is overrated.

He does not know anything about breastfeeding moms.

He basically says breastfeeding is overrated and makes us fat! Every one knows it is best for baby. And his solution is a high carb low fat diet. This just makes us hungry and irritable. We need fat in our diet to function. The advice is very easy, and the menu plans quite realistic for a new mother. My only real gripe is that nursing moms with babies over about 4 months old need to go read chapter 8 FIRST, before he scares you to death. I was beginning to think that I'd shot my chances of ever being back to my pre-kids weight again my baby was 6 months old when I read the book when I hit chapter 8.

In chapter 8 he basically declares that the entire timetable as written thus far doesn't hold for nursing mothers.

Reward Yourself

To give the author credit he does tell nursing mothers to check chapter 8 several times earlier in the book. I still would have appreciated even half the time spent on the schedule for nursing mothers that he spends explaining things for non-nursing mothers. After all, there are a lot of us out here. During my second pregnancy I read this book, I followed the simple guidelines, after my baby was born, that were inside this book and ended up weighing less than I did in high school after about 6 months postpartum. You must follow the guidelines the very second the baby is born, but it is all doable.

I breastfed and I am a stay at home mom, two things that Dr. Levine says actually slow weight loss, but in spite of that I found myself weighing 20 pounds less than I did before I got pregnant. I wish I could Thank Dr.

  • Bye Baby, Bye Bye Lyrics.

I had no motivated to eat right or work out. My in-laws joined weight watchers and mentioned they have a program for nursing mothers. Then for my birthday in May, they gave me money to pay for the first 3 months of weight watchers. Within a week I had lost 5 pounds. I love weight watchers, it has helped me make the right food decisions. It helped me think about my portion sizes.

My husband can eat as much as he wants and he never gains weight. No wonder I gained weight! A few people have asked me if it has affected my milk supply. I have tried several weight watchers recipes and they really good. I love using the weight watchers mobile app, I can track my food right there. There is also a weight watchers scanner app where I can scan bar codes and get the WW points! They also have a recipe builder on their website so I can put my favorite recipes to see what the points value is.

They base the points off: Yes I gave in at the store and purchased them. I have bad days and rather often. I still track my points no matter how embarrassing it is, and tomorrow its a brand new day. I forget about yesterday and just start over.

The only thing I still need to do is start working out. And when I have free time the last thing I wanna do is work out!
