From reading the description, I had gotten the impression that everything was fine between Macon and Wade at first, then they were spotted kissing at a rodeo, and then Wade along with everyone else became distant. Once the newspaper story broke, the whole town knew.
Macon felt like since Wade had gotten his own place, he should be allowed to move in with Wade since everyone knew, but Wade felt like they were already living in a small, small-minded town, where EVERYONE treated them different, so why add fuel to the fire? In a way I kind of agreed with him on that front. The things I had a problem with: The story would have benefitted from showing how things were before they were outed besides a flashback of when they were kids and one from when they were 18 and what it was like for them back home when they announced they were moving away.
And if the gay cowboys were going to be given tags identifying them as gay, why not tell riders ahead of time? Overall, it was a fairly decent read with decent writing, and I do plan to read book 2, to determine whether the series is worth continuing or not.
