Also, though the book is a "Christian" novel, it doesn't read like the typical, watered-down "Christian" novel. Instead, the characters are presented with all their faults and redeeming qualities. The book explores the nature of reality and whether of not there is an ultimate reality where everything makes sense.

I found the novel to be a page turner and read it within two days I could have completed it in one if I didn't have to work. The book reads like a movie and is full or great visual images. My only complaint is that the ending is rather hurried. The book's ending happens rather suddenly and there is no real closure to all that occurs. Neither is there any truly "final battle". The premise that the novel is based is so promising and there is so much more that could have been done with it. It's a little disappointing to see that the very talented and promising writer, Chase Dalton, take the easy road out.

Overall, a wonderful book recommended for anyone looking for some great Christian fiction or for anyone addicted to video games. One person found this helpful 2 people found this helpful. I just discovered Atlantyx at my local library, and immediately the central theme of losing oneself to an alternate reality grabbed my attention. The script follows a tightly moving movie-type action sequence with romance and spiritual insights woven in. The character who caught my full interest was Troy, the boy caught up in a video game world who can't turn a blind eye to the evils occurring in "real-time" to his close gamer friends.

The story shouts for a sequel, especially regarding Troy, who is a definite hero in the end yet has ongoing decisions to make. I stayed awake envisioning unwritten scenes that would explain statements characters made that the author left obliquely answered. Wonderful job awakening the imagination and a desire to understand more! One person found this helpful.

Surprisingly well-written Christian fiction! The premise - computer gaming addiction and designer drug abuse snaring college students into virtual reality - is an unexpected and intriguing juxtaposition. The characters are two-dimensional; no one truly goes through any major changes. Nevertheless, it is Christian fiction, albeit NON-preachy. I heartily recommend this book to all audiences, not just Christian parents. I just wish it had been longer! I would have liked to see more of the backstory for the main characters Valerie, Garland, Maddux, LaCroix, Teddy, Troy and the development of Mainline, the game, and the drug.

I found this book several years ago in a bookstore while on vacation. I loved this thriller. Lists with This Book. This book is not yet featured on Listopia. And then I read it and thought 'hey this is actually an interesting read'!

Better vs. Different

I loved the story. However, I was truly disappointed in the ending, and the whole 'pray with me, please' I had never read any references to religion in the book and to end it on that was a bit 'eh, really?

Imaginative and mysterious, it portrays the yearnings of the heart for a greater reality-and the vulnerability of the heart to false realities. Sep 17, Ken rated it did not like it. What a pile of crap. Mar 12, Cathy rated it really liked it.

I really liked this story, but the ending sucked. For instance, what happened with Troy? The end was way too abrupt and did not satisfy me at all.
