Please try again later. I must admit I was a little put off by the title and the cover art, but the reviews were quite good so I persevered.

My first impression was that the title and cover were selected to mask a bland book and I almost didn't buy it. Boy, was I wrong. Brad Schreiber goes right for the juggler, or should I say funny-bone, by jumping head-first into the subject of comedy, on page 1, as opposed to other books which bore you with useless information for half the book before getting to the meat. By page four, that's page 4, not chapter 4 I already had developed a unique idea that turned a bland, mildly amusing scene in my screenplay into a side-splitting hilarious one. It's something I would have never thought of without first reading this book.

Even if you are not currently or don't plan to write a screenplay, this book is a good read because it effectively explains why we, as people, see things as funny. It's easy to know "when" something is funny, but not so obvious is "why" it's funny. Even the old-time greats like Bob Hope, Jack Benny, and Milton Berle used to spend hours analyzing jokes to see why they worked or didn't work.

Schreiber has effectively answered these questions and more in an easy to read and enjoyable format. I highly recommend this book. I give this book a five star rating because it is five star. It delivers all it promises and more. I have read it twice now, and each time I get more out of it.

It is a Must-Have for the writers bookshelf. Wow, I got ripped off by this book. Only pages had anything to do with "how to write comedy. If you are any kind of writer at all, or have read other books or taken classes on writing, then 95 percent of this book will be repetition for you. And even the humor writing parts are very basic: I found out the same information by doing Google searches.

Wish I could get my money back. I am sure that Brad Schreiber is laughing at me for buying his book. It is not the quality of the book that disappointed me. It deals with general fiction, non-fiction, character, dialog, etc. There are plenty of good books to cover those topics. You wonder why there is no inside look for this book. The reason is if you just see the table of contents then you know what I am talking about.

I bought this book looking at the good reviews. What's up with that. Did any of you read the book? They sold me a "cat" telling me its a "cute dog"!. If you don't trust me you are welcome to buy this book and come back to write how you got ripped off! I searched and searched for a book that really taught the essence of how to write comedy.

Most other books where just blah.
