There was no immediacy. It was just lacking. The whole thing was a bit of a let down. The book was good on some levels. I like the writing.

Militia - Burn

It did not work. At the same time it was trying to be a book about the story of their two new pack mates who are struggling to fight their own demons, dealing with past issues, falling in love or admitting it finally , and…whatever. I get that their stories were interconnected. I just think it could have been done better. Either the two storylines needed to be split, or the book needed to be much longer in order to effectively shift the focus onto Quinton and Gage.

As it stands, the amount of page time they have is not sufficient to develop their story. Not nearly enough to get me invested. Quinton was extremely unlikeable at first. Typically, I like unlikeable characters. However, this only works for me as long as there is enough time dedicated to that characters growth. I need to know what makes them tick. I need something to call upon my feels. Not enough of that here.

Burn (Westside Wolf Pack, #2) by Zoe Perdita

The growth was practically non-existent because by the time Quinton and Gage figure their shit out, the book is over. It all felt so rushed. The only new character I cared about in this book was Luca. He was on about 15 pages if that. I am looking forward to his book. I've decided to go with 2 Stars.

This book continued that. The werewolf dynamics are interesting.

And the whole mating thing is handled in a way that it manages to not make me roll my eyes. Dec 26, R. Gauthier rated it it was amazing Shelves: Our boys finally escape and move on to Santa Cruz where they are basking in the glory of peace! But not for long Enter Quinton Santos and Gage Varela who success in turning our boys lives upside down once again.

Great addition this saga, I love both these characters along with our original MC's. Nov 25, Kevin rated it really liked it. A gay wolf shifter couple finds they're not as isolated as they had thought and are drawn into someone else's fight. Sep 10, Bobbette added it. Perdita has scored again with the second book in the Westside Wolf Pack.

  • I loved Axel and Ben from the first book and have been eagerly anticipating the second book since Ben's mom suggested they start their own pack. In this book, we see that foreshadowing come to fruition. Like the first book, the story is told in the present with flashbacks to the past from two different perspectives.

This approach gives the reader the complete story of what happened in the past that led to the present ev Ms. This approach gives the reader the complete story of what happened in the past that led to the present events and how it affected, both internally and externally, the characters having the experience. This book picks up with Axel being given the opportunity to lead his own pack, as he was destined to do, by taking over a pack with only two members, Quinton and Gage, who are mates who seem to hate each but want to defend their territory from a brutal rivalry pack together.

Unfortunately for them, neither is an alpha and that's where Axel comes in. Perdita handles the differing times and characters well in that they all don't sound the same and their actions and reactions are appropriate for the character. I found the title of this book, Burn, meshes well with the title of the first book, Crash.

    Burn (Westside Wolf Pack 2)

Like in the first book, the title of this book also signifies the event that leads to the biggest distance between the mates. After all, you don't have to like everything a book for it to be a well-written, well-developed story with a great plot and great characters that leaves you a good place at the end. Overall, I think this a good start to building a pack and a series that I plan to continue reading.

Nov 24, Susan rated it really liked it. The author has breathed new life into a werewolf saga. The setting is sunny southern California, Santa Cruz to be exact. This is not a tale of a strong alpha overcoming all odds. Rather, the four wolves in the story all are damaged in some way, but manage to come together to defeat an evil rival pack. All the MCs are very human and likable, working to deal with the difficulties life has dealt them.

While there are a couple of epiphanies, it is mostly through determination and hard work that the MCs succeed in their various endeavors. I found the story to be very readable, almost finishing it in one sitting. If you like flawed characters who triumph in part due to those flaws, this is the book for you.

This book continues with Ben and Axle living their new life happily together but something bad is always waiting just around the corner. This introduces us Gage and Quinton. Together they form a pack to save themselves and their territory from a horribly evil werewolf Blake. I love that Ben and Axle are still the highlight of this story. I really like Gage and Quinton. They are great new characters with deep ties to the land and each other.

They survived a horrible past Really good continuation.. They survived a horrible past because of Blake.

Book three continues with our favorite pack with omega Luca. Enjoyed the parts with Axel and Ben, but felt that Gage and Quinton's relationship needed more fleshing out. I understood that their relationship was not one of hearts and roses or like Axel and Ben's , but I still wanted to see more of the deeper connection they began to share with one another near the end of the story.

Maybe we'll see a better glimpse of it in the next book and hopefully less of the word 'Ese' - so hate that stereotypical phrasing. Sep 12, Lee Rey rated it really liked it. Quinton and Gage have an interesting connection they group together and know they are mates and even engage in a sexual relationship but they have yet to take the final step in claiming to commit as mates. There are secrets they are keeping from one another and each assumes the other person hates them also that there will never be love in the relationship.
