I have to believe that if I were supposed to meet my spouse right now on an online dating site, He would compel me to sign up. I do not feel disinterest when it comes to finding a relationship.

I would very much like to be in one. I am lonely often. By nature, I like results. I like to plan and execute.
And yet, I feel compelled to wait. Someday, maybe it will be the right time to use online dating. But that time is not now. Why I'm Not Online Dating. The following criticism and concern regarding online dating is not at all intended as a criticism of good and heartening personal stories — I, too, know people who have met their significant other through online dating. Today, internet dating has become more or less accepted as a way of forming relationships.
There has been some criticism, but it has usually been of the functional and operational kind, regarding subscription costs or users providing false pictures or information. There has been little thought or comment on why matchmaking websites might be a bad thing per se. Online matchmaking is premised on the notion of making rational choices. It is perhaps fitting that the language of economics and business has finally — in our late capitalist society — permeated the most irrational, the most human of all areas: Internet dating is like shopping at LoveMart.

The irrational and unpredictable nature of something very human — love and the interpersonal — is turned on its head and transformed into a rational product. If you know what you are looking for the way I have tried to describe it, I would think you could rule out a lot of losers by using the Internet.

Then, if contact happens there are great questions to ask. And I wrote 50 of them down. I think it is at the Desiring God website, 50 questions that couples should ask. And they can be asked, you know, on the internet before you even meet the kind of things that really reveal what people are committed to. I am fine with meeting someone online and learning as much as possible about them.
How to find love without internet dating
I have met numerous couples recently who said they met online and they are happily married. They are both mature Christians. I have got zero problem with that.
The great question is: Are you mature enough to discern a worthy spouse? Put your energies into becoming that kind of person. John Piper is founder and teacher of desiringGod.
