Journey to the Center of the Earth

It's like seeing it while reading it. Great imagination and description of everything by the author. Would love to read some of the other books by Jules Verne as well. Since it was my first science fiction. I was very excited while reading this marvellous piece of writing and completed in just 3 days. I recommend this book to all science enthusiasts. Amazing read but make sure if you're reading him for the 1st time, go for around the world in 80 days first and then you can choose any of his writings: The imagination intervened with technical facts makes this work a masterpiece that it is.

This is one of Verne's greatest novels, familiar to many people via several film and television versions. If on the other hand you are still tempted to make a journey to the centre of the earth from the comfort of your own armchair then I'm sure you'll be charmed and thrilled by the subterranean world of wonders which await.

Lava tubes like dried out waterflumes provide direct access to the labyrinthine maze of geological fun. Middle-world primordial seas which would have left modern day scientists to ponder the fact that the earth really resembles a partly filled laundry detergent ball , filled with giant fishes the likes of which would have had Hemingway weeping for mercy. Dinosaurs wander through ancient primeval forests of petrified wood and giant mushrooms and barren shores of bleached bones reveal the true nature of humanities origins.

Essentially Verne has gathered together all the best and most interesting bits of Early World Prehistory the bits that you loved as a kid and created a memorable if scientifically confused master piece. Ok, it's now a bit dated and yes the centre of the earth really is not quite a Verne would have us believe but this is old school story telling at its best. Read more Read less. You could imagine to my dismay the absents of quite a few characters and the center of the story is Germany not Scotland.

Now for avid readers you could care less about old movies, I can truthfully say that this is one of Jules Verne's best stories and well told. What you will find more interesting and fun about this tale is the characters and their interaction. One of my favorite parts is when Harry who did not want to go to the center of the earth with his uncle, Professor Hardwigg; he turned to his affianced, Gretchen, and was planning on her to stop him. Her answer is shockingly disappointing to him. I beg to assert, Henry, that as long as man's heart beats, as long as man's flesh quivers, I do not allow that being gifted with thought and will can allow himself to despair" Be prepared as the bulk of the book is really a geological journey back through time and forward again painfully spelled out by Harry whom is the first person narrator.

The Kindle version does not have actual picture of the runes in chapter 1. Moreover, a tad off on pronunciations.
