And the dog has another amazing secret that - in this book - John hasn't figured out yet. Meet Franklin Bean has some life lessons in it, and is a good story for very young readers and pre-readers. Ionia Froment Top Contributor: This book deals with a lot of topics in a short space and I thought the author handled them pretty well.
There is everything in this book from the state of the economy to eating well to anti-bullying messages. I like that the child main character of this book was polite and nice to his animal friend. The dog being the superhero of the book has been a main theme in other books, but never quite done as well as this one, in my opinion.
This book is very cute from beginning to end. The sentence structure is very simple and would be perfect for a first time chapter book introduction.
Franklin Bean (Secrets of the Bay, #2)
This author obviously has a gift for writing children's literature and I look forward to reading more. I recommend this one. One person found this helpful. This children's book focuses on issues that affect children of all ages. Franklin Bean is a cute talking dog that helps a young boy named John deal with being lonely after moving to a new town. Franklin Bean shows John how to handle some of the pressures of his young life. There are some good messages in this book that teach children about topics that affect them today.
The colorful illustrations are appealing, not only to me as an adult, but also to young readers who will be drawn into the story. Children will benefit from Franklin Bean's teachings and from John's strength and the love of his family.

Franklin Bean (Secrets of the Bay, #2) by Emmy Swain
There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later. Swain and her Franklin Bean series by a mutual love of dogs and rescue. I came upon Emmy Swain and her Franklin Bean series by a mutual love of dogs and rescue. Emmy had donated her books to an auction I was hosting to raise funds for a rescue dog in need. Upon reading these books even as an adult I walked away with great lessons learned about embracing changes in life, finding unexpected happiness in what can feel like a negative circumstance and the importance of friends.
The interest in Emmy's books brought in a flood of donations that took my breath away. At the same time, my own dog was very sick with a disease that was so hard to manage. We created a page for him to create awareness for his disease and Emmy followed our page.

When Bane was close to the end of his fight, one of our favorite things to do together was to lay in bed and I would read Franklin Bean books to him. I posted pictures of this.

I cannot even tell you the emotions that ran over when we saw that Emmy had put Bane in Franklin Bean and Bubbie's Bullies Bane is the controller in the lighthouse. There is a quote in this book "You always had a special way of bringing people together, Bane" And he absolutely did. He brought many people into my life and Emmy Swain is one of them. I purchased these books as gifts for attendants in our weddings, for all of my friends with children great messages and lessons about bullying as well in these books , and for friends without.
Emmy's stories are for everyone. They are a must read.

My plan is to do readings of Emmy Swain's Franklin Bean series in local libraries along with Josie you may recognize her wearing a princess costume in Bubbie's Bullies We were also blessed to have Emmy present and as a witness at our wedding where we released Bane's ashes in sky lanterns. It meant the world to us to have her there These books have not only phenomenal messages and great illustrations but you are also supporting an author with the biggest heart of anyone I have the pleausure of knowing. One person found this helpful. Both my 8 year old and 4 year old love Franklin Bean and his adventures!
I love to see them reading and enjoying these books were they can let their imagination develop and learn about the value of friendship and animals at the same time. After reading the first one, I couldn't wait for the sequel. I have given these books to friends and to my own granddaughter, Charlotte.
When a good book is found, you want the story to continue as the characters become so real to you. No one dislikes a superhero and no one likes a bully. This would make a great gift for any occasion and if you have not read the first two, don't delay. This story is wonderful and exciting for kids to read, or parents to read to younger children.

The illustrations are charming, and I was delighted to read this story about John, his friend Addie, and his mom as they get ready to go to the big event in the park. But John's dog, Franklin Bean, is running around somewhere and not coming when he's called. John knows the dog's secret but he's not told anyone. And when Franklin shows up, he's all wet.
