About Lisa Pennington

And they have been blessed by being able to comfort us, their parents, during our time of sorrow. It has given our children a chance to show maturity and strength and be a source of support for their family. One afternoon at lunch I asked if each person would just share what God is doing in their life right now. What poured out of our children was evidence of a fresh hunger to lean more on God and trust in Him.

I had not expected their answers to be so deeply thoughtful and rich. It blessed my soul to know that God is using our crisis to draw them near to Him.

Seeing Good In All

My younger boys especially love the story of the little seed and the little fox in It will be Okay by Lysa TerKeurst. It inspires them to remember that we can trust God. Whatever comes your way in life, God wants us to look at it as an opportunity to glorify Him and draw close to His grace.

Look for the good…. Lisa Pennington lives in the Texas Hill Country with her husband of 27 years and their 9 children. She homeschools while trying to figure out how to run their little farm with no real knowledge of how to care for goats or grow a garden, turning her life into a comedy of errors.

Seeing the Good in Everyone

Ironically enough for me in my personal life as an IT Project Manager, I have been trained to be more pessimistic and look for the issues and challenges of projects; to seek out and find those hidden issues that have not been brought forward by the team and could lead to project failure.

However, in my personal life and my rescue animal transport service life, I have taken a much different approach wherein I am much more optimistic in my interactions with people I encounter. I must admit this is counterintuitive even to me to think that I have two different personas that I live within. I believe in the good in people.

See a Problem?

I believe that people genuinely will do the right thing and that they have the best intentions when they begin something. This tendency for people to take the easy route may cause many in animal rescue to question the motive or intentions of potential adopters. But I challenge you to stop, close your eyes, and think about the goodness in people instead of the negative tendencies. We hear stories day in and day out about mass shootings, terrorist attacks, wars and other horrifying acts of violence against people.

Even in our daily commutes we experience road rage, aggressive drivers and people wanting to get ahead of us thus challenging our tendencies to be competitive and to win. With what our country has been through in the past couple years, it is tough to see the good in people. And even though an adult may be hardened and cold because of the harshness of life Yet, that yearning for unconditional love never dies.

Growing up, each of us has had to come to terms with disappointment, abuse, ridicule, pain, abandonment, rejection and isolation. And each of us has reacted differently.

Some of us have become stronger, while others have developed coping and defense mechanisms to make life easier. Either way, we are no longer the innocent, trusting child we once were.

That tough guy who screams and argues all the time, might just want us to see a tough guy, so he can protect himself from being stepped on as he was when he was a kid. Or that cold woman at work might just be cold because she has been hurt one too many times in the past and has decided it is better to keep people away before someone hurts her again. So though, these traits may seem like character flaws, there is a reason they are there We are all different, yet the same.

Each of us has had positive and negative people and events that have molded and made us who we are today, different from anyone else. Some of us have taken the difficulties of life and bloomed with special talents and gifts.

How To See The Good In People

Unfortunately, we can never really understand anyone else, unless as the saying goes, "we've walked a mile in their shoes". Each person has had to learn how to cope in this rough world. And when we begin to understand that about each person, then we can begin to care for them. Even though we are all different from each other, our hearts are the same. We all want friendship. We all want success. We all want a family.
