I wasn't expecting it and it was a very good surprise! As for the characters, it was quite interesting to see them grow and change.

Talis and Mara growing closer then ever, their bond almost unbreakable now. While Nikulo and Rikar fall apart. I felt sorry for Rikar in his descent, you know he's an idiot and there's nothing you can do about it. As for Nikulo I really enjoyed him in this book. In the first one I was indifferent he didn't seem special but it was cool to see what different powers he had and to watch him struggle to choose between a friend an whats right. A lot of the questions that I had in the first book were answered thank you , and of course it leaves the reader with more questions.

The cliffhanger ending was amazing and I found myself yelling at the book "You can't end it that way! I anxiously await its arrival. A rousing page turner for MG and older. Must read if you read Fire Mage. This is a great 2nd installment: When the hard times come, the boy gives it all for his friends. The girl loves the boy and he loves her back, niether as of yet admits this. Great book in the series never quite going the way you think it will but always exciting and full of action packed adventure of four friends sticking together until the end with one lost but hopefully soon to be found and rescued from his dark master over lord.

Moving on to Book I thought this book was a little bit better than the first book, Fire Mage. It seemed as though the writer was trying hard to be descriptive using adjectives and adverbs, but not actually describing anything.

I found myself having to re-read sentences just to figure out what was said through all of the adjectives. This book did have a better story to it though, and it actually had an event that was complete at the end of the book. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. Different book same complaints. Everything is rushed and on a grand scale, even the momentary peace after the war for Naru took place was brief. Luckily it looks like our main Protagonist is growing up some which makes the book a more enjoyable read even if Talis is bumping shoulders with every God know to man.

As for spelling errors, which are alot of them disrupting the reading so much so causing you to reread several times trying to figure out what is being said. Still a Good read! Sadly this may be a three because of my own personal interest during the read. Overall I feel as though this books content and flow of writing is a significant improvement over the first two in the series I personally wasn't entranced.

I found my interest minimal and as the reader, the consumer, I am entitled to that opinion. Regardless of my own guilt if this story was truly better it would have broken through that wall and grabbed me refusing to allow me to put it down. I believe I Sadly this may be a three because of my own personal interest during the read. I believe I am entitled to my opinion but overall John Forrester's writing is slowing down and explaining concepts better, even if it did take three books to do it. Good plot development and some character development I am excited that the next book in the series is here.
