The first half of the book gives an excellent framework for the strategic process that can get you beyond just talking about it and all the way to execution. The second half is very redundant. The author keeps going over the same framework with different scenarios. I would suggest reading the first half, skipping forward to the section on facilitating a group, and skip the rest.

I thought this book provided an easy to follow perspective on using strategic planning on to guide your everyday life. It's probably not detailed enough for a full-blown business strategic planning session, but it covers the basic points. It was and easy, quick read. A little redundant, but most management books are.

What I liked about the book: This book provides a clear and concise template that should be applicable in even the most demanding settings. Again, for being strategic as a personal and interpersonal skill: For business strategy and execution: Like every other book on strategy, very linear in it's thinking and never deals with where strategy actually has to come from. In other words, strategy starts with ideas. So how do you come up with good ideas for strategy? Does talk about getting clear on both the challenge and your current reality first, which is important, but all strategy books say the same thing and never get to the hard part.

Many books on strategic planning review the definition but do not walk you through the process. This book takes an individual through a practical process of strategic planning. The 'Castle on a Hill" stories are a bit much but overall, a decent, worthwhile read.
