There is just enough of a background to make clear how things work — then it gets very hot. The initially opposing views of the two main characters as to how things should work present a bit of an obstacle, but nothing too serious. The result is an easy read in a sci-fi setting.

He does not want to give in and is somewhat shocked the man is not Karrgi like him, but the signs are irrefutable.
Never mind the overwhelming attraction that soon sets in. As cold ass Thane was initially, finding his mate and realizing his life will be very different from now on quickly mellows him. His distrust of Thane and his offer is understandably huge, but he is also tempted.

He asks the right questions, and is quickly convinced to give it a try. If you like stories about irresistible attraction due to a somewhat mysterious bond that solves all issues, if you enjoy futuristic settings, and if a tough military man suddenly discovering his emotional side sounds like something you'd like to read about, you may like this short story. Rogan, the captain of the ship that rescues Bayne, takes Baine aboard and when he realizes Bayne's life is in danger, he stands by him. As soon as his emotions get involved more complications are added since he is a jealous man, possessive, and easy to anger.
The external danger from pirates and certain power factions trying to get their hands on Bayne so they blackmail his rich father prove easier to navigate than the internal battle against his own hot-headed reactions. If you like sci-fi that is as much about the people and their cultures as the spaceships, if you enjoy reading about characters who truly go through hell internal and external before they get to their happy ending, and if you're looking for some cross-cultural differences to spice up the developing relationship, you will probably like this book as much as I did.

I really loved the traits of Rogan culture and how they had to woo and care for their intended. Bayne was a bit of a brat but one that was lovable. His story was sad but he didn't really let it keep him down and upon meeting Rogan he really grew and became more comfortable with how his life had gone.
The ending was sweet and the twist concerning Bayne's family kind of blindsided and made for a really interesting read. Looking forward to seeing what the nest in So much better than the first book. This is a wonderful story of how he learns who he really is and enjoys being rather then what the media and gossips want him to be.
