With yarn needle, insert from wrong side of football through the middle of the foundation chain to the right side at the 3rd st dc , pull yarn through. Insert yarn needle back down through middle of the foundation chain at the dc on the other side of the football yarn and needle should now be back on wrong side of football again.
Then work 4 stitches up and over the first stitch in between each of the 5 trc in the football; worked perpendicular to the first stitch made. Do you sell the football applique? If so how much? Thank you for your interest in my football applique! I used the extra small loop beard figuring that must be the one to use for a baby of 6 months, but now thinking i might should have used the other one. When I tried it on my granddaughter to model it, I noticed she did not like the beard. SO I am not one that usually makes up patterns but was thinking about putting to 1 inch white buttons in the white furry part of the hat and then chaining a couple of loops on each side of the beard so the beard could be attached for photos but then unattached and worn as a hat.
What do you think? Again, any comments, ideas you have would be appreciated. I would like to send you a picture of how I took your pattern and put buttons on it so the beard can be removed. How can I do that? I plan to make a couple for my little siblings for next year. I will say the left handed does take me about twice as long as the righthanded, but I LOVE the end result!

Personally I like doing every row of loops so that the beard is nice and full. I am working on a video to help. Thanks for the pattern! Just finished up the hat for my son. Ohhhh I just wrapped the yarn around my hand about times, then tied it tight in the center and fluffed it. I think there is a mistake on medium size beard on the row where you chain. I did loop stitch 8 times chained 8 skipped 9 and loop stitch 8 times.

Maybe I read it wrong. You want to skip more than your creating because that is what creates the mouth shape, larger, rounded bottom, tighter straight across the lip.

No — ideally you change hands every row to keep the loops all on one side. Made the toddler size for my 15 month old son.
