Daisy was silly and immature particularly as she is a 50 something widow and not a teenager and I found her mostly irritating but there were moments when I didn't dislike her.

Angry, judgmental, dismissive, and secretive he and Daisy are supposedly dating but he lies to her, brushes her off all the time and seems to use her a resource for caring for Ginny rather than a partner or girlfriend.

And while I didn't like him or his behavior I couldn't get too worked up about it because I honestly just didn't care that much about Daisy or anyone else. Nov 26, Amy rated it it was amazing. I literally could not put this book down!

But I got myself caught up soon enough. And I remembered why I liked it so much. This book was very well written engaging and had a fast enough patience to keep interest.

Faith on the Rocks: A Daisy Arthur Mystery

It also had a lot of humor in it as well as versatility in the plot. Will it have a continuation from the plot in this book or will it be a fresh start. Oct 06, Doward Wilson rated it it was amazing. Totally absorbing, informative and compelling. Much different and a lot more than I had expected. The characters are diverse, well fleshed out and could be our neighbors and friends. The theme and background enhanced the twisted murder plot. The entire time I was reading, I felt like I was right there.

A former student, also the daughter of her current romantic interest, arrives on her doorstep with her blood covered boyfriend in the middle of the night. When the girl's father charges the boyfriend with murder, Daisy goes head to head with him and the rest of the police force. This twisted tale involves, revenge, blackmail, fraud, over protective fathers, mob connections and ordinary people with special needs.

I loved the murder plot and how the characters were presented. The theme of people with special needs was well presented and eye opening. This is the second book in the series and I am going back to read the first one. I can't wait to see where this series goes. A little more thriller than most cozy mysteries but compelling and worth reading.

Mar 24, Susan rated it liked it Shelves: Ginny, a developmentally delayed adult, appeals to her former teacher, now retired Daisy Arthur, when Ginny's boyfriend Brian finds the dead body of a friend and is accused of murder. Ginny's father is the policeman in charge of the case, and is protective of Ginny to the point of wanting her to stay his little girl. He is also dating the widowed Daisy, who insists on investigating the murder to clear Brian. The writing group which Daisy leads takes a smaller role in Malik's second book.

Daisy m Ginny, a developmentally delayed adult, appeals to her former teacher, now retired Daisy Arthur, when Ginny's boyfriend Brian finds the dead body of a friend and is accused of murder. Daisy makes some gains in self-knowledge, but there are plot points that are not adequately explained; otherwise, the interesting characters would earn the book four stars. Quite different in its focus on mentally disabled characters, Sliced contains the traditional heroine, grumpy and overwhelmed police detective, mysterious victim etc.

The story is simple, the involvement of two adults with retardation makes it interesting whether or not one has sympathy for them. Daisy is a traditional heroine but doesn't display the acuity most Marplesque women have. Aug 19, Jeanne Quigley rated it really liked it. Liesa Malik's second Daisy Arthur mystery is an enjoyable, fast read that has a good blend of charm, sweetness, humor, and suspense. Daisy is an endearing character with great compassion for others, particularly her special-needs friends, Ginny and Brian. When Brian is held as a suspect in the murder of accountant Cissy Melato, Daisy commits herself to finding the woman's killer.

The murderer's motive is intriguing and the chilling conclusion promises plenty of future cases for Daisy to solve. Sep 14, Catherine rated it really liked it. Amateur sleuth Daisy Arthur is pulled into another case when Brian, a developmentally delayed young man, is caught with the murder weapon in his bloody hand. Daisy's motivation to get involved really made sense, and was emotionally engaging. Happily, the mystery is the heart of the novel. There is no agenda here as Malik presents good people of faith, including a kindly priest, to balance out the bad.

I enjoyed the cast of characters, some with poignant stories and others providing comic relief. Aug 13, Amy rated it really liked it Shelves: A good kick-off to the Daisy Arthur mystery series. This well-written story kept me guessing to the very end. Plus, it had a lot of elements that stuck a chord with me -- there's a potential romantic interest, a German Shepherd puppy, a "retired" teacher Daisy that worked with Special Needs kids and is still close to a young woman the potential romantic interest's daughter that has issues.

Plus, Daisy is part of a writer's group it is one of her group member's that is murdered , and we have a dedicated bunch that meet here at our library that I would LOVE to recommend this book to!

I'm looking forward to reading the next in this series. BTW, according to her author biography, Liesa had a German Shepherd and is the mother of a child with special needs, so she knows from whence she speaks. Oct 22, Matt rated it did not like it. I read this book because I read the jacket of one of the later books and wanted to start at the beginning. Honestly, I only finished it because I was hoping the characters would get better, but no. The lead character, Daisy, is a weenie. Cries at the drop of a hat, lets everyone push her around because she doesn't like conflict and let her school girl like crush on the cop turn her into a blithering idiot.

The rest aren't any better, cops who push every rule and basically do what they want. An an I read this book because I read the jacket of one of the later books and wanted to start at the beginning. An annoying neighbor, crazy people in the writing group The only character I cared about was the dog! Save yourself the time and skip this one. Maybe the series gets better, but I'm not going to give it another chance, I'm honestly surprised this even got published.

Apr 15, Amy rated it it was amazing. This is the first book in the Daisy Arthur series. I wasn't sure what I would think of it, after all, the overall reviews on this novel Burt seems to be either very positive and very negative. However I found the character engaging the story line entertaining and her humor amusing. I'm looking forward to reading more in the series. I particularly liked daisies neighbor chip. He was a sweet guy once you got to know him.

I also like the way that her impressions of all the other writers in her group change throughout the novel. I can see a promising cohesive group dynamic developing in future books. Realistically, I would call this a 4. Thanks for the great read: Sep 18, Jeanne Quigley rated it it was amazing. From my Amazon review: I found the mystery involving and the subplots with Daisy's writing group, Gabe and his daughter, and Chip and his loveable dog Thunder quite enjoyable.

There is great humor in some scenes, while others touch the heart. Daisy is an entertaining narrator; readers will like spending time with her. Liesa Malik has created a terrific cast for future Daisy and Thunder adventures! Mar 16, Jess added it. I loved every minute of reading this book. I enjoyed all the characters in the book. I'll be looking for another Daisy Arthur mystery soon! Mar 31, Marg Corjay rated it it was ok. Quthor was trying as hard as main character to include as much plot conflictas possible in her writing.

Too many unnecessary plot detours all going on at once, immaturity by characters was unrealistic. Apr 18, S.
