Seve: The Autobiography
Poor Seve, he won a few but for every one he didn't win he has an excuse - it was always someone else's fault, or the course, or something. I'm not an American, and Seve has a long history with American golfers and spectators, but even a Spaniard couldn't stomach this long series of complaints. Also there are numerous errors in this book of the type that indicate that the ghost writer - no Seve didn't really write it - makes such obvious mistakes that show he doesn't know anything about golf.
For example, on p. There are at least 3 or 4 similar mistakes that require no effort to detect. Seve didn't write it and he didn't check it and neither the editor nor the writer are very competent. Anyway, the book is of little interest 20 years after Seve did anything - he can't break 80 now; what is it with fine golfers who completely lose their game?
That would have been interesting but it's not discussed. Seve could shoot 65 as as year-old and shoots 80 now can't break 80 now? Forget the Europeans, they had a good decade or two but that's it, the Commonwealth and the USA are the history of golf for the last years. I'm just glad that this book was given to me and I didn't pay for it.
Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I have great admiration for Severiano Ballesteros both as a man and a wonderful golfer. Well before Tiger there was Seve. I was hoping his own autobiography would tell me much more of his life than it did. It was more a run down of his golfing achievements, and of his disputes while playing.
To some extent he comes across as having a small chip on his shoulder, and to some extent his treatment in Spain and by the Spanish golfing body would be enough to give you a feeling of resentment. The Ryder Cup is his real love and his account of each game is documented, and although interesting is a little boring. For such a private man maybe it was difficult to write more personally than he did, nevertheless what he did recount of his childhood and early years was enjoyable.
I was keen on learning first hand anecdotes from Seve himself. This book is cold, very descriptive of situations on the golf course and opinionated with respect to his troubled relationships with people. There are many repetitions. The book isn't well planned. Many times I had to advance pages without reading them because of boredom. See all 4 reviews. There's a problem loading this menu right now. Get fast, free shipping with Amazon Prime.

He won the World Match Play Championship a record-tying five times. He is generally regarded as the greatest Continental European golfer of all time and won a record 50 times on the European Tour. Once or twice a generation, an athlete transcends his sport - at last, here's Seve Ballesteros in his own wordsThere are golfers, and there are golfers. And then there's Seve. Severiano Ballesteros was perhaps the most naturally gifted golfer ever to have walked a fairway Once or twice a generation, an athlete transcends his sport - at last, here's Seve Ballesteros in his own words There are golfers, and there are golfers. Ultimately, it all leaves Seve looking self-righteous and egotistical.
Seve The Official Autobiography by Severiano Ballesteros. 9780224082563
I respect that he was the best golfer in the world for a while, and an inspirational and important figure to many and to golf in general, but a little perspective and humility wouldn't go amiss. He seems to think everything should go his way, and if it doesn't, its because of some conspiracy theory - like the Ryder Cup that he helped campaign to be hosted in Spain. Yes Seve, I appreciate how much effort you put into campaigning, but this doesn't mean that it has to be held on the new course that you are designing - or failing that one, another course that you've already designed.

I appreciate that you won't make any money by having the tournament held at one of your courses, but you have to accept that it wouldn't do your professional reputation any harm, would it? Later he describes how he was Ryder Cup captain. He decides early on that he isn't going to organise as many social events as would usually be the case, because it's too much work. Then he decides the captain should be paid a fee for the duties - but no one else should.

It's one rule for Seve, one rule for everyone else. None of the other captains got paid Seve, and you've already admitted that you were doing less work than them! I was hoping there was going to be some real golfing wisdom in here, but aside from one or two interesting comments, it was as poor as so many other sporting biographies. More so, in fact. I don't care Seve, how many famous people, and how many royals you've met. I just - it was really uninteresting, ok? Oct 05, Maggie rated it really liked it Shelves: I really enjoyed this.
