The author brings out quite a variety of facts that may indeed point to his suspect. He keeps shooting himself in the foot, though, with statements to the effect of for instance "everyone agrees that Jack the Ripper was a strangler. He also fails to deliver the goods in not telling us why he chooses the victims he does in compiling his list of true Ripper victims, and above all in not telling us exactly what was done This was an interesting theory which I think deserves attention. He also fails to deliver the goods in not telling us why he chooses the victims he does in compiling his list of true Ripper victims, and above all in not telling us exactly what was done to the woman he describes as the last victim -- there is a vast difference between "abdomen cut open" and "abdomen cut open and this and that removed, never to be found.

I think we learn that Burt murdered his wife after a period of living in East London in late a fact that seems open to dispute, although I think he was. Not enough was done in London the vast majority of the book focussing on a much less relevant period in in Dundee.

Whatho all, I did feel some of the comparasons to modern murders interesting as I have not and do not want to read about Messrs Bundy et al. The idea of common names was pushing it a bit although. Come down this dark foggy ally then my dear". Jack the Ripper was not caught and he was such a successful murderer that the police had absolutely no idea what his identity might have been. If he was not in fear of being caught, why did he stop?

The explanation, says Euan Macpherson, is simple. In fact, it is so simple that it is astonishing no previous researcher has followed this most obvious line of enquiry. Jack the Ripper did not retire in the autumn of and, in fact, the Ripper murders did not stop.

This cold and calculating killer simply packed his bags in the winter of and moved to another part of the country. In an astonishing piece of logical detective-work, Euan Macpherson follows the footsteps of Jack the Ripper as the world's most successful serial-killer got on a boat in January and sailed out of London with murder still on his mind. The accused was a small dark-haired man who was known to have been violent towards women.

On 21 January , he and his wife travelled by boat to Dundee. Could this be coincidence, people wondered?
