In that The Universe is Toast! Everything the fourth introduced is kept, and in addition to them are a few new cool things, such as a surf-boarder-like animation for when Keen stands on moving platforms and key-cards for special doors in addition to the gem-stones that you need to collect in some levels.

The game is as fun and packed with action as the other three post-trilogy games those being Keen Dreams, the fourth episode and the sixth one , and the enemies certainly don't disappoint this time around, either. Most are robots or electrical creatures, and they are unique in design and behavior, just as in the other games. That huge, mean-looking robot you see on the title screen? Yeah, it's in the game. See what Keen is doing?

Running as far away from it as he can, and that's what you'll be wanting to do, too. It ranks real high on the coolest and most impressive bad guys in all of these games, and that's a long list. There is also one creature in this that can push you, like most of the other games have, but it isn't annoying like it was in the trilogy, not enough to notice, at least, like it was in the sixth episode where it wasn't as annoying as in the first three games. The Neural Stunner is the Commander's weapon once again, and as in the other two games, not every enemy can be defeated by it, and some regain consciousness.

This game also lets you see what the Shikadi look like Whether or not they live up to his ever-so-slightly cartoony reaction is up to each individual player to decide. They make for some really cool adversaries, that's for sure.

Now, obviously this game isn't going to last as long as many of the more recent titles will Check out the F. YouTube video courtesy of Squakenet. 'Goodbye, Galaxy!' Episode V: The Armageddon Machine (Video Game ) - IMDb

The Isiur is the last piece of Draconian resistance. Mackenzie fears attacking it might ignite a chain reaction that would destroy the universe. He's arguing this point with a delegation of the Million Star Council when a Xin named Metarion arrives. The Xin live extremely long lives and have assigned themselves the task of watching over the universe.

Metarion recruits Mackenzie to take part in a bold plan to defuse the Isiur. The plan involves taking a Draconian prisoner to the Isiur and boarding it during a battle. Mackenzie has doubts about trusting Metarion. Is the Xin telling him everything? On whose side is the Xin? I liked the references to physics and the inevitability of processes once triggered. The real battle here is in the realm of theoretical physics.

However, Kewin does not weigh down the narrative with complicated science. There's just enough to let the reader follow the story. The Armageddon Machine held my interest from start to finish. There are twists and surprises to keep the reader off balance and the protagonist elicited my interest and sympathy.

If you're looking for a short, classic scifi read, you won't go too far off course with The Armageddon Machine. Surprisingly a lot of twists, turns, and subplots for such a short novella.

As in all shorts - it has the main larger than life plot point - all destroying weapon from some crazy dying race that no longer has a reason that live. Mysterious strangers that probably can help, but whose motives never quite make sense. Not enough time to think through things. Well, you know how it is. My only bone to pick is that the author close to the end realizes that readers need quite a bit of theoretical knowledge to understand what all the hoopla is about and wastes time explaining it while he could have spent more time on the psychological elements of the story arc.

In any case - good read! I like the grand science concepts posited in this novella that got me thinking about the universe in terms of trillions of years and the possibility of immortal cosmic beings. Quite thoughtful and intelligent. Finding science in science fiction literature is harder to do of late. With the sole surviving Draconian in custody but refusing to talk, how can the machine be stopped?

As options are considered, the machine abruptly vanishes. Now it is time for our fleet to give chase but where to start. If you can decipher the technical info you might enjoy it more than others but even not grasping it all I found I truly liked the book and look forward to reading mor of Simon Kewin's work.

I thoroughly enjoyed this long short story -- novelette? The fate of the universe is at stake, multiple alien species are involved in this conflict, and one in particular -- the Draconians -- want to go out with a really big bang. When the Xin, a legendary species you may remember them from the X-Files , arrives on the scene, it's unclear what their motives are.

Do they want to save the universe or destroy it so life can start over? Well-written, fast-paced, with intriguing characters despite a few goofy names , that will have you on the edge of your seat as the action amps up to a fight for the finish.

Commander Keen 5: The Armageddon Machine

Great concept and development. I truly enjoyed reading this book. Great story and writing. The only negative is that the story was too big for a short story. There is a lot of backstory that is referenced but never expanded upon. There are also events that occur, but are never described such as a large battle.
