Reasons why I was not fond of this book. Step-mother who kept devastating secrets from the hero and lied to the heroine that the hero was getting married to someone more worthy of him. Heroine was led to believe the hero cheated on her.
Heroine was led to believe that hero refused to acknowledge their child. Again it was kept from him as the step-witch tried to convince him to marry another because that arrangement would benefit them financially. Before This was a 2. Before story begins Hero was on his way to get his woman back after he told her to leave when he was involved in an auto accident and has had amnesia for the past two years with no memory of the heroine.
A real blank slate. The story moved along much too slowly and it felt like I spent the whole day trying to get through it. The hero saw a flyer with an ad and the woman in the ad drew him. His body knew her so he takes off to Australia. He finds her, begs her to tell him what he has forgotten and then totally disbelieves everything she says.
Would I read it again: It was also very frustrating and it didn't help that I had read three amnesia books in a week. I just don't like it to take so long for progress to be made. Alessandro was in a car wreck, and now suffers short term memory loss, or better known as amnesia. There are parts of his life that is like a black hole. He comes across a brochure, and has the strong feeling he knows the lady in one of the pictures. He is hoping she can help him fill in some of the missing parts of his lost memories. He travels to Australia. Carys was Alessandro's lovers. He sent her away, and she hasn't heard anythin This was an a emotional, and endearing, heart tugging story.
He sent her away, and she hasn't heard anything from him since. She left his estate pregnant, and he had claimed the child she carried couldn't be his. Now she is a single mom, working long hours, and doing all she can do to support her little boy. She is so shocked to see Alessandro. Before he told her about the memory loss, he asked where the father was of her son. That earned him a slap across the face. So many emotions bubbling up from both Heroine, and Hero. Once he told her about his accident, and lack of memory, she did fill in some of the blank spaces in his lost memory.
There was lack of trust on both parts, and they had to work together to earn each other's trust. The chemistry on the other hand still burned between the two like a wild fire.

Jan 14, Mary E rated it it was amazing. Alessandro is the king of ice princes. I found his demeanor cold and hard, making this book hard to read. But true to form, Annie West throws in heartwarming tidbits, behaviors and cute nothings that encourage you to keep reading. There was a scene where he calls Carys a lair!? I actually felt the heat from Carys's flush! I then calmed down and was able to finish the book. Great book, a must re-read keeper! Overall book rating
I'm surprised because I usually love Annie West. May 26, Nightwitch rated it it was ok Shelves: So this is your standard secret baby Harlequin, with a few twists, mostly annoying. They had an affair two years ago and then split up when the heroine was told he was sleeping with someone else. Shortly thereafter, the hero had an accident which resulted in amnesia for the seven-month period of their relationship, and no one filled him in on it. Oh, she wants to refuse?
When they originally broke up, it was because someone told the hero that the heroine was sleeping with his business rival. I don't know what it is - whether I'm just not in the mood for a Harlequin Secret Baby romance or what - but I was really having difficulty slogging through this one. Part of my issue was the consent is always so, so dubious - it's not just "I hate you - but you're really hot so I'm going to climb you like a jungle gym" but "I hate you, I hate you" while the hero basically keeps pawing at the heroine until she gets turned on and he's able to successfully have sex with her.
Didn't want to finish it, so didn't. I usually don't like the amnesia trope because it's usually the heroine that has memory loss and the hero is an idioit that puts them both through hell, but this one was the hero who has amnesia and AW had my attention and I couldn't put the book down, not even while cooking dinner.
This one has all the ingredients needed with evil stepmother, OW, who wasn't, and OM that really wasn't but tried. Both Carys and Allesandro allowed others to come between them and didn't have even faith in themselves to trust to believe they could have someone love them so completely. The story picks up 2 years after they broke up and Allesandro's accident that left him with no memory of Carys or their relationship. He saw a picture of her and knew instantly that she was somehow the key to unlocking his memory so he goes to see her at the hotel she works at and attends the masked ball. The chemistry between them is instant and hot. He learns of their son and doesn't believe he's his and after the test results prove he's his son he forces marriage or a custody battle.
It's takes some painful conversations for the truths to come out and for them to really trust each other, but the HEA is believable. Their son, Leo, is just adorable! May 24, Danielle rated it it was amazing Shelves: Another great book from Annie West that I thoroughly enjoyed and glad that I read. I was pulling for both Alessandro and Carys from page one, knowing they deserved to have love and joy in their life. And they were just great characters that I could sympathize with because each of them hadn't had the easiest of times in their life so I was interested to see how their love story played out. There's a twist and a hook in this story where the hero, Alessandro has amnesia and has no memory of the heroine, Carys, only getting flashes here and there about her.
Forgotten Mistress, Secret Love-Child
But once sees her picture for the first time, he is automatically drawn to her, and is desperate to find out why and he intends to. So, he seeks her out in Australia, and immediately sparks fly between the pair. Carys wants nothing to do with him since he dumped her two years prior, not trusting her and believing she was with another man while she thinks he's been with another woman and about to marry her because she was upper crust society, which his stepmother makes her believe even though its not true, and Carys is not.
Carys already has self-esteem issues steaming from her childhood at feeling not good enough ever in her parents' eyes since she has dyslexia so she easily believes that Alessandro has dumped her. But to make matters worse for her is that she ends up pregnant and tries to get ahold of him, but he never answers her, making her believe further that he doesn't want her or their son with them not being good enough for him so she decides to raise her child on her own, and forget Alessandro and her love for him. So, it's quite shocking when he comes to find her in order to fill in the gaps of his memories that only she could provide, which shocks her.
What shocks him is the fact that he does have a child, and that he has missed a year of his life. While his body craves Carys, the rest of him craves being a father to his son so he offers marriage to Carys so they can be a family. At first Carys disagrees with him, but eventually comes over to his side realizing that her son does in fact need a loving, present father in his life, and she's willing to enter a loveless marriage to provide that.
So once they get married, and have a hot wedding night, things fall into place thought Carys tries to keep herself emotionally distant from Alessandro, which drives him crazy, wanting more from her. And he does get it, and learns about some of his past with her and her insecurities and just all the painful things that she had to go through, which makes her soften towards her even more and fall even more deeply in love with her than he already was.
They, of coarse, get their happily ever after together, which they both deserve Alessandro is not a jerk like some of the heroes in these type of books, though it doesn't make me love reading these stories any less with each coming to terms with their issues. Carys finally feeling like she is good enough for him and good enough to be his contessa and loving him with her whole heart.
While Alessandro realizes that he is in love with her, after denying to himself that he could ever fall in love or had fallen in love with her in the past, and that he wants to be with her, reassures her, protect her, and just loves her because she is meant for him and meant be with him. She's the missing part of him along with his son, and he embraces that and her and not being horrified at the idea like he was in the past when he thought about falling in love with someone.
And they just love each other. And I believe they did fall in love so deeply in the past, and it was believable to me not like in some books because they did fall in love over time and just like okay "I want you" then suddenly "I'm in love with you" no this book was nothing like that. I could see Alessandro fall deeper and deeper in love with her as time went by, and even before that I could tell he felt something more for her than a physical connection to her after her reacted so violently to that picture that he had to go find her and meet her and see if the connection existed in person.
And it was just a nice build up in their relationship, showing that they both overcame their issues and embraced love instead of staying stuck in their ways, which is beautiful, and what I like about these books, overcoming your issues and then finding love and embracing it because that's the most important thing in life.
So, to me this was a great story with enjoyable characters and a sweet yet hot romance that anyone would root for to get their happily ever after. Another great romance book by Annie West like so many of her books are, and I definitely look forward to reading more books by her in the future, hoping those book are as endearing of a love story as Alessandro and Carys. Dec 02, H. Laffin rated it it was amazing. Annie West never ceases to amaze me! I love her writing.
The wittiness, and passion of her stories. How in some way they can be related to real life. I bought this book, because I am a diehard fan of her work. I love stories of confusion. Where one character assumes something completely out of context and, along with the other character, have to fight work to get back to the love they once had. I love passion, and intense romantic Annie West never ceases to amaze me!
I love passion, and intense romantic scenes. I especially love when the character has a personal demon, they are not sure how to overcome, and therefore the other character becomes of help. The beginning of the story captivated and kept me turning pages. Hell, to be quite frank, I was becoming aroused!

It was that well written. You have a man, Alessandro, whose body recognizes this woman in a magazine. She is not of his class and neither a woman he feels he would normally date. However, his anatomy has been awaken from a two year sleep. We learn that he was in an accident shortly after his father died. He has no memory of 2 months prior to his accident.

Though, he knows this woman holds the key to his memories. We meet Carys and she is this down to earth young lady trying to afford life and make it in a fancy hotel, that she had finally allowed herself to try to be hired at.
She felt people would look down on her as they had her whole life because she has dyslexia. She is raising a child from a man she once loved. However he threw her out, accusing her of cheating. When she tried to tell him she was having his baby, he never came after her or called her back—and she thought he loved her. She was lead to believe he married of woman of his class, and she was a last minute fling.
You NEED to read this book!!! In addition to Annie writing this book about a lost feeling, a lost love She touched base on Dyslexia. Something that affects my husband and I believe my son. I love how in the end, Carys was able to organize a charity that would help children with disabilities. I knew after I read her book, I needed to do some research on the matter.
