There was some danger in taking an interesting idea of a female lady highwayman and making it appear like a young girls lark, but thankfully that didn'lt happen. Her reasons were sound and make you want to cheer her on. She is a refreshing historical heroine and her need to good things for the less fortunate was well rouneded. Everything else needed a little bit more in terms of development and taking the time to pace things out.
Chaptepr transitions occured with a tad bit of whiplash which made the story feel like itw as jumping around too much. Also the other characters needed more rounding out because it just mostly felt like the female and male lead together and everyone else just flitzes in and out. To that end, certain characters seemed to be put in as plot devices and were not seen from again which made it difficult to care at times. What really bugged me was how the cheesy plot device was used with a faux prince and "sinister" woman to unmask the female lead which didn'lt make any sense, neither did it explain how they knew about it or anything to that effect.
It was all a little too convenient but I didn't mind so much because of the rest of it. Overall, it was a good just a little too quick so it was hard to buy the romance subplot and if it wasn'lt for the fact that they were lifelong friends would'lve been almost impossible to ignore.

This was a cute and quick read with witty and engaging characters that don't conform to society's standards. I enjoyed not only the characters, but also the fact that the story revolved more around Victoria and her exploits to help the underprivileged than it did the romance. Sure, it was fun watching our two main characters figure out the depth of their feelings for each other, but for once the romance didn't overshadow the "meat" of the story.
Victoria was by far my favorite in this story even though she is one of the main characters. For someone who looked out the window at the age of eight, and realized that there were people less fortunate than her to the headstrong woman who puts others before her own well-being, she was a character that stands out.
I do wish there would have been a bit more at the end of the story when everything came to light , but all things considered, it was still a great story. Overall, I am sure this story will appeal to those who enjoy a clean historical romance with a strong female lead. I would read more from this author. I love stories of women who defy traditional gender roles but novels of female highwaymen are a dime a dozen and a large portion of them aren't worth the time it takes to read the covers.
After reading Celia Rees' Sovay, I've avoided these titles like the plague. Still, something about this novella said take a chance. I was pleasantly surprised by The Robber Bride. The characters aren't as polished as I would like but they are charmingly appealing and witty. Almost from the first page, I found myself laughing out loud at the surprisingly anecdotes and dialogue.
Perhaps this is why I found the plot holes so disappointing. I'm still not clear on exactly how Lady Beecham came by her information nor do I quite understand how Finn was able to find so much support for Victoria when it was the very lack of compassion among her peers that led to her actions in the first place. I know it is a novella but that doesn't excuse loose ends. The Robber Bride is a sweet love story with just a hint of danger.
Recommended light romance or beach read. This story is shorter than most novels, hence the need to get to the point quickly. The ending could have gone one of two ways as I saw it, and the author chose the over-the-top version, which to me seemed a little hard to believe, but hey, it's a novella, not a non-fiction book. I am not sure what year the story is set in, but the American word "okay" is used, which was invented during Andrew Jackson's presidency.
If this is a Victorian Era novella, then perhaps the word had crossed over the pond by then, but during the Regency Period, it could not have been used because it had yet to be invented.
Daring Debutantes Series
The story touched on the often ignored topic of London's poor, and the contrast between the wealth of the Quality versus the extreme poverty found in London's slums. Since this is a novella, less description is used to tell the story and explain the character's motivations. I found one villain to be confusing. She struck me as being rather stupid, yet she was able to execute a brilliant scheme of revenge against the h. I didn't really see that coming.
Was that the author's attempt to show us that we really hadn't given the villain enough credit for having a brain, or was this an example of lack of character development due to the short length of the story? Clean, fun, and uplifting for the most part story with a HEA ending. I didn't give this much chance but I really liked how it began.
The writing was good.
The characters could have been more developed but it wasn't a long novel more like a novella. When the characters started to fall in love you could tell the author tried to keep it clean but maybe wasn't used to. So it is cleanish, some sexual innuendo. There was some swearing also. The end got a little silly and fantastic and just rolled up too perfectly.
