About The Trace

Where the novel gains stature is in the pacing. Friedman has the concept of tossing in background information, dated in time, in a way that keeps his story rolling forward. The layout of the book is conducive to fast reading also: So for even non-baseball addicted readers this is, simply put, a fine adventure of a story. Feb 14, M. Strawberry Reviews rated it really liked it Shelves: I really enjoyed this book even though I am not a sports fan. However, the summary of this book sounded good, so I decided to give this book a chance, and I was not disappointed. I liked how the two stories and tied together, at first I was wondering what the storyline had to do with it but with each chapter it became clearer and clearer as to why this story was so relevant, and it did make the story more interesting.

My only complaint is that the storylin I really enjoyed this book even though I am not a sports fan. My only complaint is that the storyline ended so quickly, we do not find out what happened to the scout or Didi.

It is vaguely hinted what happened to them, but very vaguely, and I would have liked some closing scenes on the two to make this storyline more complete. The other storyline was solid, and I really liked the writing style, there were some quite clever passages and descriptions in here, this was a real page-turner and I definitely do not regret reading this book. Slat's characterization was solid and real, even more so as we learn more about him bit by bit through the book.

I was right, but it might not be as obvious to others because I'm the kind of person who can usually figure things out. My only issue was something that happened near the ending, it felt like a bit too much of a convenient twist to me something involving the mafia, that is all I will say as to avoid spoilers but I still enjoyed this book nonetheless, and would recommend it to others.

When it comes to murder, the city of Chicago has the unfortunate distinction of being the number one city in the USA. The Chicago Cubs' baseball team, on the other hand, have not been number one won a World Series since much to the chagrin of their die-hard fans. I will not ruin your read by giving away too much of the plot but needless to say that while readers try to connect the dots and uncover the identity of the serial killer, author Friedman throws them plenty of sliders and curve balls including a significant one on the very last page. This is one of the better first novels I have read and while not a grand slam it is definitely an easy triple.

Friedman choose to continue with his Slats Grodsky saga he could very easily hit it out of the park and join the ranks my other must read favorites like Michael Connelly, Vince Flynn and Lee Child. I absolutely loved this book! I have read several reviews stating that if you are a Cubs fan you have to read this book. I would agree but I think I enjoyed it even more being a St.

Chicago Still Isn’t the Murder Capital of America

In June, the police department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives announced a new task force aimed at decreasing the spread of illegal guns throughout Chicago. The task force includes an additional 20 ATF agents, as well as 12 Chicago police officers, two Illinois state troopers, six intelligence analysts and state and federal prosecutors.
