I don't follow a strict low carb diet; however, I've found these recipes to be an excellent way to start my day. It's safe to assume you're not going to get those five servings of veggies in if you don't start at breakfast, so it's great to see such a focus on vegetables in a breakfast cookbook. We all know that mornings are a hectic time, but these tasty recipes often allow you to multi-task by using your oven to make breakfast while you shower, get the kids up, or whatever your morning routine requires. I also really appreciate the kitchen tips and tricks that Douglas sprinkles throughout the book.
I'm a pretty good home cook, but truthfully, a perfectly hard-boiled egg had eluded me Even Martha Stewart didn't get me to fluffy hard-boiled yolks, so that tip alone makes this book worth the price of admission for me! Whether you're making a smoothie to take for the road, a healthful sit down weekday breakfast, or an elegant weekend brunch, this book has you covered. Some helpful hints in this booklet, including how to boil eggs.
I know someone will be indignant, how can you NOT know how to boil eggs properly? But I'm telling you, until you know how to make boiled eggs that don't stick to the shells, this will be a big deal in your life. Nice basic recipe ideas, something different than the usual low-carb breakfast grind so many of us get into. There is a pancake recipe that requires soy and wheat gluten, if you don't use these things you won't find that one useful.
This book is a little basic but a boon to the newbie low carb eater with its array of omelettes and "muffins" and low-carb treats that go beyond bacon and eggs. But isn't it nice you can eat bacon on a low-carb diet? The easy, cheesy sauce suggested for Eggs Benedict is incredibly yummy as is the Strawberries and Ceam smoothie.
Thumbs up on the sweet potto hash browns as well. The list of suggestions for fast breakfasts lox and cream cheese on a wasa is worth the book's price because if you're in a hurry, it's all too easy to just grab a cheese stick and that gets old fast. If you're new to the lifestyle, this is a great jumping off place.
One person found this helpful. This book has some truly extraordinary recipes. I like that a great deal of them are well thoroughly considered, simple to plan and simple to cook, made entirely of whole and natural foods and also contain a ton of vegetables. The majority of the recipes also contain a complete nutritional breakdown which I found extremely helpful. The recipes are simply written and in easy to follow steps that will have you cooking delicious Low-Carb meals right away. I would certainly recommend this book for Low-Carb health food nuts and even those viewing their calorie check.
This is my first cookbook on Kindle purchase and I have to say I love it! Its easier to prop up my tablet and cook with it rather than trying to read a paper recipe. This book has some really yummy recipes. Having the nutritional facts at the end of each recipe helped too as I am also trying to stay under a certain daily caloric intake.
