I like many of the characters but find myself a little lost about some of this. First teh book seems written towards young adults but then some of the themes seem a little off age for that.
I can appreciate the experiences of "Flea" the main character and I can also sympathize with him. This book does a great job of pointing out the perils of miscommunication or assuming too much. The main problem I am having is more with the quality of the writing in the later books. My other issues are more personal to me like the way that the author seems to be making a whole new history for Christmas that interfered with my idea of the season.
But that one IS a purely personal issue. Sometimes it is hard to "give up" a cherished ideal. I also would have liked to see more personal growth on the part of Niko. He is supposed to be one of the most important elves at the North Pole but he starts out assuming the worst and even when he has had the experience of seeing the reality of things he still stubbornly clings to what he thinks and refuses to see what is right in front of him.
I would expect more of someone in such a position. Still, I suppose, that is the way people usually are so maybe I expect too much out of my fictional characters. Unfortunately I would probably give books later in the series a lower grade but over all this is a good series that starts well and you will want to follow the whole series just so you can find out what REALLY happens.
The Rudolph Challenge
My 10 yo son has read this entire series. It can be hard for me to find books that he really gets into and if he like the first book he reads them all. These inspired not only pure belly laughs but anticipation and excitement of what was coming next! I would highly recommend this entire series! BN needs to get this author's works also!

I loved the first book, the second book was better than the first! Can't wait to get into the third and continue the adventure. This series is alot like the Harry Potter series, as its got magic and danger and friends and adventure that makes this series very exciting.

I like the mystery involved with the Christmas holiday and winter characters. This book did annoy me quite a few times as the editing needs to be corrected. I hope the author goes back and fixes these. Why did Flea get whisked away to the North Pole and if Flea's presence is causing danger why did he get taken there. Is the world really full of so many bullies and mean people?
I would have like some more antagonists who were not bullies and mean elves. Having said that it is quite an enjoyable read though I felt it rather lost its way about two thirds through the story with much telling of people's thoughts and motives and not nearly enough showing. I hope the following books develop this story and answer some of these questions.
Apr 05, Margo James rated it it was amazing. Great new Chistmas Eve story. Young and old will love this book as part of their tradition. For full review please go to: This book was a slow-paced book filled with tons of mystery and questions unanswered to keep you on the edge of your seat! This novel was fun to read and I loved how it wasn't really a Christmas story, but that it involved the North Pole and the South Pole. Also that it involved the mysterious armies and enemies ran by th For full review please go to: Also that it involved the mysterious armies and enemies ran by the evil Jack Frost. I just loved this book for those reasons!
This book is about an elf named Flea. At first in this story Flea doesn't know that he is an elf, but he knows how to build anything and everything extremely well! Flea also finds out that he is great with snow. His shop teacher, Mr. Strick, gets him on the show, The Great Build-Off, but Flea's foster mom won't allow him to go on it because of unknown reasons to keep him hidden from bad people! However, Flea goes to the show anyway. After the show, some one gives him a gold ring and at At the North Pole, he makes friends, learns tons of secrets and learns that he is a danger to Christmas and the North Pole.
He also finds out that he is possibly related to Santa Clause! Dec 14, Julie rated it it was amazing Shelves: The five star rating is all their doing. It was a cliff hanger of an ending, which is something I just can't stand, but my kids don't care since we are starting the next book tomorrow.
While more Flea, Rome, and Minko is not necessarily a bad thing, I have to admit that my feelings about the book are more tempered. However, since they spent a good portion of today pretending to fight the villain with Nerf guns, I didn't want to deny them their five star rat My kids.

Oh the agony of middle school. It sucks to be different from everyone else. Poor Flea really stands out. But he does have a skill. He can build, better than anyone his age should be able to. That doesn't stop him but being bullied.
The Rudolph Challenge by Kevin George
The story really picks up when he gets taken to the North Pole. The writer sucks you into his story and leaves answers hanging to be answered in the next book. Not bad for a freebie. Nov 16, Mike marked it as abandoned Shelves: I've had a pretty good run lately of entertaining middle-grade books, so I thought I'd give this one a try. I didn't see a recommended age on the Amazon page, but just a chapter in, it's obvious that this book is intended for the very young. That's what I hope, anyway; the alternative is that it's just bad. Simplistic writing in the extreme, and the author treats commas as a finite commodity.
Not for me, I'm afraid. Jan 03, Beccie rated it liked it. This would be a good series to read to your kids during Christmas. I didn't like how none of Flea's questions were answered. I felt like readers could have gotten a few answered and still have been drawn into the next book. I won't be continuing the series since I don't like that aspect but it was a good and original read.
Mar 31, Midori rated it really liked it. In the beginning I remember thinking this book is so boring and I cant wait till I finish it. After the first few chapters it became very interesting. Towards the end I couldn't put it down. It is a slight fast read unless you stop and try to imagine it.
Nov 22, Heather rated it liked it. A good Christmas story about the elves at the North Pole.
