Towards the end it did seem like anecdote after anecdote, sometimes so rapidly moving from one case to another I got whiplash. I do think SFT works real well and comes very naturally to a certain group of people, so naturally that this group has a hard time understanding that a lot of other people have a hard time thinking that way, and overselling how easy it is to transform one's life using these methods causes frustration among those who don't think that way easily.

I love the perspective of this book. He gives general suggestions of many different things to try, ways to change things. I love this concept, and think it makes a lot of sense. I would prefer more depth, details, research, less feel-good stories and end of chapter summaries.

Jul 06, Jennifer rated it it was ok. I thought the idea behind this book was great, expressing the need for people to stop expecting change when they're doing the same thing day after day. Something new is needed to bring around different results. I also like that he was interested in action instead of focusing on extensive analysis. The problem I had with this book though was that it wasn't at all recent. He speaks of how most self help books don't focus at all on action or changing.

This might have been true in the time he wrote I thought the idea behind this book was great, expressing the need for people to stop expecting change when they're doing the same thing day after day. This might have been true in the time he wrote this book, but pretty much all the self help books I read now are based on nothing but change and bettering your life.

I found a lot of the book repetitive too, probably because I've already read it in many self-help books before this. It might have been a great book in , but it's a bit out of date for I really enjoyed the solution-based approach of this book. It's refreshing and interesting.

Led me to start finding solutions to some of my problems at work. But not the book to read if you have severe OCD, depression, or panic attacks. Putting aside Bill O'Hanlon's questionable relationship history especially as a marriage and family therapist , he gives a lot of great suggestions that anyone could apply in his or her own life. I like the examples he provides of clients he has worked with as well as the summaries of key points reiterated throughout. This book had some good, common sense solutions for how to approach problems. I am giving it three stars, however, because of the format.
