Howard's alpha heroes are a little too much for me to take sometimes, but I do seem to easily forgive the MacKenzie men in her books. I absolutely loved this book!! It was perfectly written and Zane was so easy to adore. The epiloque made me laugh a lot and I don't laugh at books so easy. Just one word for it: What a surprise ending Jun 17, Dee rated it really liked it Shelves: This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers.

Yes, any reader could have read the book as a stand-alone but that update was a little more special to those who had read the previous two stories as we got a glimpse at what had happened with the Mackenzie family in those years — Well done Ms Howard for including that! Wanting to discover exactly what her husband feels like when he is flying, Caroline got her own pilots licence and is qualified to fly small jet aircraft.
He married Shea Colvin who was daughter of Pam Hearst Colvin she was Joe's girlfriend when he was 16 , but Pam's father was Ralph Hearst who had hated the 'breeds' and threatend to disinherit Shea but pam stood up to him. Shea nearly died at delivery of second son and doctor advised she not have any more kids. Unfortunately Josh had a very serious crash that ended his career and left him with a stiffened right knee.
On the upside he did manage to meet his doctor who quickly became a special lady in his life who later became his wife. Josh now works at an aeronautics firm developing fighter plans. Chance, a part American Indian like Wolf, was adopted by Wolf and Mary when he was 14, Mary found him along the roadside when he was seriously ill with pneumonia. They soon discovered that Chance was living rough and never really knew a proper home as he avoided social care.
Zane and Chance who initially mistrusted and disliked each other became very close. Chance had eventually left and went out on his own and is now described as a soldier of fortune who worked undercover jobs for the government. Zane was now a SEAL team leader. It is during these hours that Zane and Barrie become close and knowing that they could be captured at any time and that she would likely be raped, she decided that she wanted her first time to be something she could remember and propositions Zane.
During their escape Zane gets injured and they are separated. Once back on US soil Barrie tries to find Zane to make sure he is ok but information of his where abouts is constantly blocked by the Navy. In the meantime Zane starts to recover and tries to make contact with Barrie but is blocked by her father, but Zane is determined as he wants to see Barrie again and to find out if there were consequences of the time they had spent together in those 24 hours in hiding.
The story was good and in usual Howard style the words flowed making it an easy read. Barrie is a great Heroine; she is strong and resilient but also has a soft and gentle character. Zane is also pretty incredible and is a typical sexy alpha SEAL who would make any heroine fall in love with him. View all 3 comments. Knowing that should they be captured the rape the terrorists had promised would happen, Barrie propositions Zane and asks him to be her first lover.
After their rendezvous with the Team, Zane is seriously injured and once rescued they are separated. Marrying the sexy SEAL seems is the only option to keeping her and the child she carries safe.
Mackenzie's Pleasure
I think this one is my favourite MacKenzie book so far. I liked that Ms. Howard gave us a very detailed prologue with an update on the MacKenzie clan, keeping Wolf and Mary very much a part of the series. There are actually three stages to this book, the rescue, the separation, and the reunion with the threat being resolved. Zane and Barrie are awesome characters. Barrie has a remarkable strength that pushes her to endure all that she must to survive. Her instincts recognize Zane as her protector and she leans on him without being clingy or needy. The action is very well done, the lovemaking scenes sizzle, and the epilogue a pure delight.

Time for my LH fix Mackenzie's Mission 4 Stars Navy SEAL Zane Mackenzie is accustomed to dangerous missions, but his current assignment, rescuing Barrie Lovejoy, the daughter of a United States Ambassador, is turning out to be far more critical and personal because Barrie has come to mean everything to him. His experiences as a Navy SEAL have exposed him to the dangerous face of humanity and it has made him rather cynical. She faces the circumstances of her abduction with a strength and courage that one does not expect from the spoiled and pampered daughter of a diplomat.
This is the weaker aspect of the story as the explanation is underdeveloped and contrived. That said, the climax and resolution are action packed and exciting.

So, obvs, Linda Howard just telling readers that the couple is in love is pretty much just how she rolls. Generally, the lady decides she is in looove with the dude, even though she knows jack-all about him and the dude decides that the lady is "his" but he "doesn't know what love is" but clearly something is up that's how to tell it's true love btw, because the dude has a perpetual boner. She does this in a lot of what books of hers I've read, but the Mackenzie series in particular relies ver So, obvs, Linda Howard just telling readers that the couple is in love is pretty much just how she rolls.
She does this in a lot of what books of hers I've read, but the Mackenzie series in particular relies very heavily on this. I mean, I really liked this book, even though Instalove bugs the fuck out of me. It's just really lazy. I mean, it's a romance novel, yeah? For the most part, I think that Howard does end up showing why they end up in love, but she puts the cart before the horse and I just can't understand it. Anyway, that's a lot of complaining for a book I did actually like, but like most of Howard's stuff, even when I'm kind of annoyed, I just can't stop reading?
Sep 04, Jane Stewart rated it really liked it Shelves: Ambassador's daughter Barrie is kidnapped. She falls in love with him. She continues to be in danger.
Dennis Boutsikaris was ok. Number of sex scenes: Zane un gran maromo. Mar 22, Lyndi W. I think I want to have Linda Howard's babies. I'd find a way to make it happen, believe me. I've read 3 of her books recently and I either got totally lucky, or Linda Howard makes a habit of writing strong female lead characters. I was so happy to read about a female lead with guts, common sense, and realistic emotional responses. Barrie was delightfully strong and courageous in the face of serious danger. No squealing, no running headlong into danger, no freaking out and losing her cool.
He was compassionate, tender, and understanding.

He treated Barrie just right after her kidnapping. I would wrap him in bacon and chow down on him any day. He always knew what Barrie needed and was right there putting her and her needs first. I want a Zane of my own, please. The story was paced very nicely. Drama, lull, drama, lull, drama, ending. It was a fairly short read, but I was really into it. I didn't stop for anything short of the doorbell ringing until I hit the last page. Though I haven't read any of the other Mackenzie books, the prologue gave me a sizable rundown of the other family members that were featured in previous books.
Even though I had no clue who those people were, a few things mentioned piqued my interest and I'll be looking for Joe and Caroline's story in the future. As odd as it is to say, everything was very believable and felt right. The characters, the suspense, the threats, the familial interactions, etc. I'm glad I gave this book a chance the cover made me doubt myself for a while and I hope I can find more strong heroines by Linda Howard.
You guys have no idea how amped I am to not want to kill a heroine myself.
