We teach and learn the mysteries of God by revelation from His Holy Spirit. As we seek to transmit faith and spiritual nourishment to our children, few methods are more effective than parental example. Family prayer and parental teachings and testimonies, such as in family home evenings, are powerful transmitters of religious values. So are Sabbath observance, tithe paying, and missionary service. More than a hundred years ago, President George Q. Cannon — , First Counselor in the First Presidency, reminded parents of this principle.
I have seen the truth and power of that method as I have reflected on the examples of my parents. Among the most important things parents can do for their children is to provide them with worthy examples and with opportunities for personal religious experiences. Statistical studies of Church members in North America show that the example of parents is the most important single factor in shaping the behavior and beliefs of youth.
These studies also show that family experiences are the strongest methods of affecting religious behavior—clearly exceeding the effect of Church activities. Family religious observances when young people are adolescents are important predictors of their values and behaviors when they become young adults. Where the family is religious in its ideals and practices, the proportion of youth who remain lifetime active participants in the Church is four times higher than that of those raised in families that are not religious.
None of this is surprising, but it is sobering. Think of the responsibility parents assume when they neglect family religious observances or when they engage in behaviors they would not recommend for their children. Further, intellectual methods and experiences are not sufficient to transmit faith and spirituality. Parents who fail to provide their children with good examples and positive personal religious experiences seriously jeopardize the transmission of faith and spirituality to the next generation.
Parents teach most effectively by what their children see them do. I will describe three parental examples of the kind that give children the spiritual nourishment to sustain them throughout their lives. Savage was a Latter-day Saint pioneer called to settle eastern Arizona.
Year after year, he labored faithfully in his assigned area. Finally, after his large family was reared, he wanted a little rest. He would not ask to be released from his mission, but he allowed his son to contact President Joseph F. What a heritage of faith and service for the spiritual inheritance of his posterity and others! My second example also comes from pioneer times. When the Saints needed a large quantity of rags to process in their paper mill, the First Presidency asked bishops to sponsor rag drives in their local wards and settlements.
Oh, what a change in the aspect of affairs. Arrington, Great Basin Kingdom [], For more than three years, George Goddard traveled from Franklin, Idaho, in the north to Sanpete County, Utah, in the south, visiting hundreds of houses. It was humble work, but it was essential for the progress of his community, and it was assigned by priesthood authority.
My third example is more modern. Shumway shares something he experienced as a young missionary in Tonga. He was invited to the evening meal of a faithful Tongan family who were living in extreme poverty. At lower levels of consciousness — we feel better after we react. As we become more conscious — it no longer feels good to react. As we continue to awaken, it feels quite awful, and even out of integrity to react.
This is our inner guidance system leading us to awakening. As we awaken, and become more and more conscious, we might still have internal reactions to people and events but we quiet our negative expression and we do not react outwardly. The tricky part is being responsible for your experience of reality without taking on the responsibility of others. As soon as you try to control the experience of another, or believe that it is any of your business, you drop into lower consciousness. If you try to control anyone, in anyway, you give them your power.
The only thing that you can ever control is your own energy which amounts to your personal and intrinsic power. You allow them to have their own experience of reality, without trying to control them or it. You can, however, quietly uncover the inner part of you that might be responsible for that experience, and you can release or adjust any beliefs, judgments or views that may be manifesting as the others experience.
This means that it is still about you and not about them. Yet, from the highest level of consciousness, you allow everyone their experience, without needing to alter or change it in anyway. In other words, you trust the flow and wisdom of life. You are the most powerful when you allow others their experience, and you take complete responsibility for yours.
This is also where we tap into our power to consciously create what we truly desire in life. Your intrinsic power manifests as loving relationships, creative expression, living as free as you feel, success in realizing your dreams, and being truly joyful and peaceful in all that you do. As we Master Our Energy, through mastering our thoughts, beliefs and emotions, we begin to understand that this is the only power and control that we have over our reality, but also the only one that is needed.
As long as we believe that the outside world acts independently of us, we have no power, but once we remember that the outside world is a reflection of our inner world, we have unlimited power — to change ourselves, hence change our world. This is the grand mechanism for conscious co-creation. By taking complete responsibility for your life, without self-judgment, you can easily raise your level of consciousness, thereby accessing greater intrinsic power. When you use your life as feedback and adjust your inner world accordingly, until the outside world lines up in the ways you most desire, you can make a quantum jump in spiritual evolution.
Awakening To A Higher State Of Consciousness
In this way, owning your power could be a shortcut to awakening. You must be logged in to post a comment. Instead I got silence. I think she was waiting for the punch line. I nearly killed myself twice trying to improve myself! Like Gandhi said, you must become the change you want to see in the world. Of course, in truth you already are the change you want to see… you just need to know it. Many of us have since we lost our true selves. Grab hold of them and they can stop a downward spiral away from your true spiritual self.
Nourishing the Spirit
A perfect pattern and a divine intelligence that knows how to bring it into expression. A pause is a wonderful thing. It allows things to sink in, or things to rise up. The result is what appears to be more things coming to you, but is really more of you emerging. I knew she wanted to hear a definite yes, and in my heart I wanted to give it to her. She needed to dig deeper if she was going to experience lasting change and rediscover how to find her true self. For her, she attached it all to having a successful business, or more accurately, money.
And, in some cases, it works initially. Meaning, she changed the world outside but remained the same inside. She was bumping up against a primary problem with many personal development strategies: In other words, instead of struggling physically to manipulate circumstances, the individual struggles mentally and emotionally to achieve the same results.
What we create will always be congruent with our current self-image, so any improvement we attempt will still carry the underlying fears and limited beliefs we have about our true selves, which can only lead to the same stress and struggle. At worst, these efforts can actually magnify our underlying issues and create even bigger problems down the road. In contrast, when we recognize that everything we need is already within us, and begin to reconnect to that feeling of innate wholeness and perfection—the way we felt toward that baby—we lay the foundation for the Law of Emergence to operate a process that is about becoming or rather, revealing more of who you truly are, unleashing your infinite, often imprisoned, potential.
On this path, there is never a danger of going the wrong way or hitting a dead end, because, rather than trying to fix, correct, or fill in something that is missing, the Law of Emergence holds that, when you cultivate your inner conditions, your next evolutionary stage will unfold organically. And because your next stage is already within you, it will arrive whole, bringing with it everything needed for the fulfillment of your true self.
As larger paradigms are discovered, previous ideas are often folded into them. Likewise, the Law of Emergence contains the principles of planning, action, attraction, self-awareness, spiritual connection, and all the other elements necessary to creating the life you deeply desire. As a byproduct, the universal laws will continue to operate to draw to you—or, more accurately, from you—everything you need to achieve your true potential.
Just as a tree may need additional support to hold it upright while it grows through certain stages, so do we. Every stage of our development serves a purpose in getting us to the next level. Babies crawl before they walk, cry before they talk, and play with blocks before constructing a building.
The key is to not become attached to or overly identified with any practice or condition. Just keep ascending higher. A growth spurt, if you will.

Emergence works whether or not you know how or why, but having this foundation tends to make it work better, faster, and more consistently. There may be times when you become confused or frustrated with the ideas being presented. It means that a new, higher idea is trying to emerge through old conditioned thinking. I invite you to use this as an opportunity to dig your roots deeper into your true self through journaling and further contemplation.
Often, this results in breakthrough insights, life-changing paradigm shifts, and new ways of seeing and being in the world. Let the seeds of these ideas fall upon the fertile soil of your soul, water them with your willingness to grow, and keep plowing forward. This is a path of revelation; you will be revealed to yourself. So what happened to Bonnie? The thing she thought she needed—improving her business—did not happen. Instead, she got a job that paid the bills, which gave her enough relief to get back in touch with one of her true loves—music. We are born blank slates, empty shells, and must make something of ourselves—internally and externally.
Whether or not you consciously buy into that B.
Eliza Fayle’s review of Spiritual Rags to Spiritual Riches: Reaching Your Higher Self
Meeting our expanding needs is a necessary and even noble goal, but if the underlying beliefs and value systems guiding it are in opposition to the fundamental harmony of the universe, it will ultimately result in more suffering and limitation, and a disconnect from our true selves. So, what does the acorn principle have to do with this? For one, it reveals how to harness the power of the universe rather than oppose it.
By understanding this aspect of Mother Nature, you will discover a vital clue to your own nature and how you were designed to grow. The Principle of Correspondence, a Hermetic law, states: The identification of this principle, along with other correlations in interdisciplinary studies, led some scientists and philosophers, such as Ralph Waldo Emerson and Albert Einstein, to the conclusion that the same processes which occur in nature—and their underlying principles—can be found in other areas of life.

For many natural laws, there is often a parallel moral, scientific, and spiritual law that mirrors it. For example, the positive and negative charge required to conduct an electric current can be correlated to the masculine and feminine energy that must come together to create new life; the masculine and feminine is correlated to the left and right hemispheres of the brain and its functions; and the concept of yin-yang in Chinese philosophy, medicine, and science reflects a multitude of contradictory yet also interdependent dualities found in nature—fire and water, light and dark, the sun and the moon.
In the context of Emergence, however, the acorn analogy is taken to the next level: Locked up in the seed of your soul is not just an image, calling, or pattern of potential—it is the fully realized True Self, formed in the invisible dimension of your being. And, while it makes use of the raw materials of your life to take shape, it is not dependent on anything outside of you for its existence, as it already possesses the power and substance to manifest whatever it needs.
Why do two children growing up in the same home with largely the same experiences go on to pursue such different professions as a priest and a plumber, or a cop and a crook? Can the nurture argument really explain that?
