The author explains and evaluates all the standard tests from Thermograms to Prostate Cancer Screning. She discusses the exciting new cancer vaccines and their potential for the future.

The author also lists and discusses all the cancer fighters - the various foods that contain antioxidants and other ingredients that help fight cancer and build and maintain the immune system. The best feature of the book just might be the tremendous list of resources presented in the Resource Section! This book was easy to read and informative. It gave a great overview of what cancer is, how it is tested and risk factors. I liked that it had a balanced and sensible approach with plenty of warnings about individual differences. Apart from the comprehensive list of mainly foods that help prevent cancer there is a brilliant compilation of online resources at the back of the book with direct links to a huge variety of organisations.

Julie Joyce obviously has a wealth of knowledge and experience linking people with the resources they are searching for. This book is packed with information that is vital to everyone, whether they have had cancer or not.

The opening sections of this book stress making dietary and lifestyle changes to prevent getting cancer. The middle section provides a strong list of food and lifestyles choices that can help prevent cancer. The final section is a list of organizations that provide information for people and partners with cancer, or wanting to prevent it. An oversight is the lack of mention of traditional Chinese medicine and herbs.

Recent Western research has shown number of the herbs and medicines of traditional Chinese medicine to have positive actions against cancer cells and the side effects of chemotherapy. Readers who are familiar with complementary medicine will want more - as the book lacks mention of organizations like the raw foods pioneering Hippocrates Institute or more controversial treatment resources like the sodium bicarbonate treatment of Italian oncologist Dr Simoncini.

These avenues can provide invaluable hope for some - we found an unheralded, emigrant Professor of Chinese Medicine whose medicine, developed and researched in China, destroyed a massive tumor in a number of weeks. And, as the author notes, new developments are constantly arising - so use books like Cancer as springboards, in consultation with your medical adviser, to explore what is now possible.

The author has written this book from personal experience giving guidance in what to expect if there is a cancer diagnosis. She also guides the reader in how to lessen the risk that faces us all, by allowing sensible choices in foods, environment, stress and behavior.
