Oct 20, Shant rated it liked it Shelves: It was pretty good. I don't have that many thoughts about misfires, although the book covered way too much ground to give deeper looks at some issues.
I'm assuming that this was written as a textbook so it was supposed to be neutral. I don't like how for the African American chapter, the authors acknowledged rap music and made it sound like all was well for African American people in music. Again, I realize they were trying to be quick with the rest of the topics covered, but not the best look A It was pretty good. Again, I realize they were trying to be quick with the rest of the topics covered, but not the best look Also this is me being a troll but they didn't have music for most other races or the LGBT and age chapters which isn't especially bad but could have been food for thought for readers to think about how the media has to improve a lot more.
The classism and ageism chapters weren't really necessary. On one hand, they didn't harm the rest of the book and I guess they're less heated ways to make people think about stereotypes, but they don't have the same implications as racial or LGBT stereotypes so reading them was kind of a joke. On the other, the discussions for how the media portrays them was slightly better.
Oct 31, Scott rated it it was ok Shelves: The authors made this pretty heavy on their agenda. The real problem I had with the book was the way each chapter was stated as "this is the ONLY way to think about this" then it would be different in the next chapter. They would use an example of how someone was mistreated, then in the next chapter use a different example to show how someone else was mistreated, but the group from the previous chapter was probably treated in a great light in that example. It seemed a bit manipulative. Finding libraries that hold this item You may have already requested this item.
