My favorite feature of this book is its inviting conversational tone. But this book needs to be savored. Each of the 30 chapters begins with a simple phrase describing different aspects of our walk with God. Though the chapters are succinct, they each deliver mind-stimulating, heart-penetrating messages using Bible stories to illustrate their truths. It also closes each section with an associative prayer and supportive verses for further reading or study. Used as a daily devotional, or to read through in one sitting, this book serves as an encouraging friend, and as the back cover states, shows us ways to enjoy God more.

What if you could truly find pleasure in His company? Sound like an impossibility? Something reserved for a select few, none of which happen to be you?
World-reknown author and speaker, Dutch Sheets, has written a book sharing his life stories on how he cultivated, and continues to cultivate a personal, deep relationship with Jesus. It would make a great devotional book, and since there are 30 chapters, you could easily read through it in a month, and then read it again the next month.

It is easy to read, engaging and for the most part spot on Biblically. As we all must do when reading books! I give this book 4 out of 5 turning pages. I received a free copy of this book from Bethany House Publishers for the purpose of review. All opinions are my own. Dutch Sheets has been a favorite author of mine since we lived in northern California. I have read many of his books on prayer and over the years found him to be authentic and accurate in his perspective. I have kept several of his books in my library, even as I weeded books out to give away. This book is excellent; can be read as a devotional or just a reference.

Apr 06, Veronica rated it it was amazing Shelves: I really enjoyed this book and felt it had a lot of great information.
I loved how it was pointed out that God desires to have a personal relationship with you and that He pursues you and rejoices over you! He talks about how we have to make spending time with God a priority, no matter how busy we are. Only we can make that decision and we have to remember that that's the most important thing, not doing good works or being busy for the Lord. I really enjoyed the many word studies and how a verse I really enjoyed this book and felt it had a lot of great information. I really enjoyed the many word studies and how a verse's meaning would become incredibly clear after you see the deeper meaning in which Hebrew or Greek word was used.
He used many personal stories and many Biblical ones as well. The chapters averaged about pages; this would work really well for a devotional. This book was convicting in a good way, where you are determined to change because you're looking forward to spending time with God, not out of guilt. The way Dutch described his relationship with God was wonderful and something we can all have!

I appreciated the biblical references, as wel I received a copy from Bethany House Publishing in exchange for an honest review. I appreciated the biblical references, as well as the Greek and Hebrew studies throughout this book. With so many awkward devotionals yes, awkward out there, it was refreshing to read one I could relate to on a deeper level. At the end of each chapter you will find a topical prayer derived from multiple bible verses. This is a helpful way to tie what is read to what you feel. I would definitely recommend this to my friends!

The Pleasure of His Company is a beautiful devotional. With 30 short chapters, it should be read as such instead of as in-depth study like the aforementioned book. Don't get me wrong, there are nuggets of gold and wisdom in every chapter of this book. However, it's hard not to compare it to IP.

What if the very God of the universe requested the pleasure of your company? He does and Sheets explores what that means. Books by Dutch Sheets. See All Goodreads Deals…. Trivia About The Pleasure of H It has blessed me so much! There was even a time when I would press in for the heavenly realms. Things would start open up over my life, but there was a problem. I was searching for intimacy in the wrong place. The places I would visit were often the throne of grace and the heavenly courtroom.
I loved it and I learned so much.
There is so much to learn for us there. Yet, even though I would go into heaven and these places I was still aware that somehow I lacked intimacy with Papa. Even though I would go many times to the throne of grace and talk with Papa there I was looking for intimacy in the wrong place. One day, when I went to the throne of grace Papa asked me a very important question. Are you willing to let go of all these teachings in order to get to know me more? This was one year ago when Papa asked me this. And when He asked me to let go of the teachings I was actively pursuing at that time I started receiving more understanding and revelation about certain things.
I began to understand that each throne in heaven has a different function. The function of the throne of grace for example is to receive grace and mercy in the time of our need. And the function of the throne of justice in the courts is to receive judgment and justice for the case you present there. Yet, none of these thrones have the function of intimacy. So God started taking me on a journey of where to find intimacy with Him and grow a deeper relationship with Him.
He showed me that true intimacy with Him is found right here in my heart. I have found the place to have intimacy with Him and it is right here within my heart. So since last year I began practising going down from my head to my heart and spend time with Papa there. I realised that being busy with getting more bible knowledge and listening to all these teachings actually kept me prisoned in my head if I did not choose to let go.

The mind is all about knowledge, formulas, facts, right and wrong and trying to figure things out. There is no life in our head or mind. Life is found in the heart. Out of the heart flow the issues of life. God has put eternity in our hearts. As a man thinks in his heart, so he is. And the heart is all about intimacy, relationship, feeling, experience and love. Intimacy only grows in a heart-to-heart connection, not in a mind-to-heart connection or a mind-to-mind connection. Many times I have approached God with my mind and could not connect with His heart.
Yet, sometimes it was easy, but sometimes not.
