Such as not being allowed to carry his broadsword around without getting arrested. And not being allowed to punch the policeman who tried to take his sword away. With the knowledge Cam now has of how the war turned out, he is determined to find his way back to his own time to warn his people. He and Claire try everything to find a way to get him home. But, along the way, their affection grows for one another. This was such a sweet book. He was such an honorable man and wanted so badly to repay Claire for all she did for him. Nothing about this book makes sense. I couldn't care less about the hero or heroine. The plot is ridiculous. The MCs have zero chemistry. The romance is nonexistent. Maybe I just haven't gotten there yet. Jul 04, Sandy M rated it it was amazing Shelves: A story that will make you believe.

Antique-store owner, Claire MacGregor's world changes the night she opens a puzzle box. She awakens later to find a very handsome, naked and rather angry man in her room. Once she realizes he's neither from this country or this century, she promises to find a way to send him home. From one adventure to another, some of which involve bailing Cam out of the local jails, Claire falls further and further in love with the big Scot. Cam, whose own heart is falling for Claire, refuses to act upon his desires since he plans to find some way to return to his own time and home.
The ending is such a satisfying happily ever after for the brawny Cam and the tender-hearted Claire that old and new fans of Ms. Blair's work will sigh with contentment. Blair's humor and witty prose, you will NOT be disappointed. She's predictable in that you know you will enjoy the story but it won't be a keeper shelf addition or something you will rave over for days. A Highlander Christmas holds to that theory quite well. If you haven't read the entire balance of the series, this book probably will seem not only far out to you but maybe even leave you shaking your head.
Pretty much its imperative you have read the first umpteen novels before this one. I would classify this as more of a sweet romance than anything, although there are intimate scenes. To me the romance aspect of the book seemed a bit rushed, along with trying to realistically reconcile a 32 year old female being a virgin. Its possible I know but not probable. Add to that the back cover depicts Camry as looking more like a 14 yr old than a 32 yr old and that really ramps up the ick factor I'm definitely NOT saying "don't read this".
Its not a bad book, its just not a great book. If you need something to get you out of a reading slump, or maybe to pass the time in a waiting room this is probably going to fit the bill. So much for a strong female character. PODLY has the answers to the universe, but no one seems to be in a big hurry to save it. And there is magic. The characters Camry is a top-rated rocket scientist who when pressured from a colleague, can't hang and runs for the hills. The characters are both terrible and unrealistic. Often my favorite part of romance books is the chase. The set up of the meeting, the barbed words, the lusty looks, and the back and forth that leads up to their mutual realization should be fun, interesting and the part of the book that really sets up their personalities.
Unfortunately here, since magic is involved, their meeting and chase take about 2 pages and is completely uninspired and disappointing. There is no chemistry between the characters and their reactions to each other not to mention the dialogue is crazy unrealistic. Also, this is sort of Highlander lite, as there are only Highlanders in family and it is wintery but not really Christmasy.
The dogs were cute though. View all 4 comments. Dec 29, Jess rated it liked it. Camry MacKeage has suddenly stopped becoming a rocket scientist in favor of being a dog walker and a bartender. After Luke meets Camry's parents they get a mysterious card only signed F, that tells them where Camry is. Luke is dispatched by Camry's parents to find her and bring her home in time for the Winter Solstice. But Luke knows that it's not going to be easy, because Luke is hiding his own secret from Camry. This book was a decent read. Nothing super spectacular, but it was entertaining. Luke and Camry were nothing like I would imagine rocket scientists to be. They were both engaging and very active and each had their own presence. They both really popped off of the page and right into my living room.
A Highlander Christmas was a decent read, and something I would happily recommend.

Dec 13, Willow Brook rated it really liked it. This is my first Chapman and had a lot of characters from her other Highlander book. I still followed the story easily enough. The plot has lotsa magic and time-travel with repeated references to miracles. Add in several dashes of humor and A Highlander Christmas was a pleasant light read. It didn't feel especially "Christmassy" and tension was minimal because with all the magic, time-travel and miracles, you knew everything was going to work out. Of course, you know that in Romancelandria but s This is my first Chapman and had a lot of characters from her other Highlander book.
Of course, you know that in Romancelandria but sometimes you're more on the edge of your seat. It was a nice love story of two scientists -- Camry who needed to stop running from her family's "Magic" and Luke who needed to accept that the Magic existed. Jun 08, Laurel Richards rated it it was ok. This book had nice bits of humor and the kind of charm holiday books are known for. I especially liked the dachshund, Tigger, so I loved that she was on the book cover. I felt like this book either needed to be more humorous or more serious.
It had a strange tone and feel to it that was sort of in between. I also could not relate with the main characters, though other readers may not have that problem. I can accept a certain amount of moodiness in a character, but Camry struck me as n Pros: I can accept a certain amount of moodiness in a character, but Camry struck me as neurotic and annoying. Luke was so deceptive through most of the book that I did not find him attractive.

Dec 12, Amanda rated it liked it Shelves: Book of Somehow I missed that this was part of a series, so I spent a lot of time confused. But it was still an interesting read and I'd like to go back to the beginning and read the rest of the series. Maybe then some of the pieces will make better sense. Dec 03, Shanna rated it it was ok Shelves: This book was a huge disappointment. One of the reasons I picked it up was because the synopsis said the characters were NASA physicists so I thought there would be talk of space, science, equations, or at least numbers.
There was zero talk about that. The only reason we know the main characters, Camry and Luke, are rocket scientists is because Camry was apparently tracking a satellite and then it crashed. Oh, and Luke was also tracking the satellite. I expected their jobs to play an This book was a huge disappointment. I gather that magic is prevalent in all the books, which is fine - I like magic, but it felt like every problem Camry and Luke ran into was solved by magic or time travelers who had traveled back in time to make sure everything worked out.
